toonami almost makes big o look good.
toonami almost makes big o look good.
You don't like Big O?
I don't either tbh. I even watched the whole series thinking I'd get into it more but I just couldn't.
Love Toonami though and I hope they bring it back. Needs more G Gundam though.
Big O is so and so. I like the art style, but the story was kinda flat and it sucked it never got a real conclusion.
Speaking of Big O, why does Adult Swim only air the second half of the series now?
They help funded the second season. So for them to show the first episode again was sort of a big deal because they lost the rights.
There would have been a season 3, but Tim and Eric threaten to leave and so they cut that to bring in their terrible show. Life is cruel.
All of the funding of their show would have been used for one more season of Big O.
I've always hated them.. with a passion.but Tim and Eric threaten to leave and so they cut that to bring in their terrible show.
Like most people in this thread, I grew up with this shit, but watching US dubbed anime isn't as appealing as it was when I was younger. I'll definitely support it coming back, though, 'cause I'm hoping at the very least it'll make companies bring more anime to the US to buy on BD/DVD. I don't think we even have Toradora! yet, do we?
Honestly Toonami should stay how it was - a nostalgia trip and nothing more. To bring it back would just be to shit all over its memory like a bad sequel. The fact is, anime isn't the curious novelty it used to be during Toonami's heyday - nowadays it is well established, people either already have other ways to watch anime or have decided they won't watch anime at all.
Adult Swim caters more mature anime to those of us who grew up on Toonami, which works out. But I'm not sure how many young people really care for anime anymore (perhaps largely due to the fact that growing up, they haven't been that exposed to it like we were), and lately the teen shows coming out of Japan aren't really that good/able to be marketed to Americans. I wonder, if they bring back Toonami, will they play the old stuff like Gundam and Tenchi, or will they acquire new properties and try to turn them into future classics?
I'd be happy with just a better anime block on Saturday nights and if they place Toonami there, that would be cool with me. Their current anime lineup is just so bad. If they pick up new stuff every so often, that would definitely be a welcome change. Looking forward to what they do though.
Wait, what? Didn't Big O Season 2 end long before those two unfunny twats ever showed their pathetic asses on Adult Swim?
I wouldn't mind this either. Get rid of Bleach and have the anime lineup start earlier with some decent shows.I'd be happy with just a better anime block on Saturday nights and if they place Toonami there, that would be cool with me. Yea it was a nice trip down memory lane but it threw into stark contrast how poorly voice acted and 4kids-translated those shows were.
The nostalgia factor wore off real quick for me and every other line became as cringe-worthy as they would to someone that didn't watch them as a kid.
More/new anime would be nice but I'd look forward to it cautiously, if it's more stuff like Bleach I'd rather just keep watching reruns of good shows.
Which Adult Swim have you been watching? Their anime picks have flopped for a LONG time. Hell.. that's why Adult Swim only shows anime what.. once a night now? That and the american anime coverage in general is ass because people just don't care anymore.
But yeah.. if they bring Toonami back, they need to actually look for feedback in terms of what to get instead of grabbing 'whatever'
I'm not sure what kind of success AS could expect when catering largely to stoners in a time slot where a good portion of the world is asleep or actually out enjoying a saturday night, in anime's case. I'll be the first to say they can do better, but it also means not putting everything in the basement to start. Expanding the block and starting at 9pm would probably do wonders.
Aside from FMA Brotherhood I can't really remember the last time they got an anime I really cared about. Like Big O had its high points and good art style(Roger Smith being pretty much Batman with a giant robot was great) but the open ending was a giant wtf. If I'm up that late I'll actually catch myself watching the Cowboy Bebop reruns just because it's still a good show that has aged well, but if they brought back Toonami I'd like to see some actual good anime being put up there at an earlier time and put the nostalgia shows on after Bleach/FMA.
Doesn't even have to be that new, there is alot of older anime that has been dubbed that is appropriate for that time block, like Ippo, Hellsing OVA(could throw in Hellsing Ultimate as 'specials' every once in awhile after it's done), the list goes on.
Sorry, I just meant AS in general, from the time it began to now. It's had several good shows - Trigun, Bebop, Geass, FMA / Brotherhood, GitS:SAC etc. They may not be doing great now but AS anime block achieved some great things for those of us who grew up with Toonami and still has the potential to, if only they'd grab some good properties. Toonami probably won't be able to do that, it's dead and gone and it is nothing more than nostalgia now.
Right. Keyword here. They HAD. Back when that stuff was still relatively new to the US and not in it's 43rd run-through. Over the last few years, it's gone to shit hardcore. Honestly, outside of the few stoners and what not that watch the shit.. I don't know anyone personally that still watches [as] and actually says "Oh boy, I can't wait for some [as] tonight."
I'd be willing to say that anime on cable channels that the majority of the audience can get.. is probably dead as there's a lack of interest to it.
I..I watch AS for Squidbillies, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and Metalocalypse. Just need that fucking season 4 of metal and I'll be happy.
I don't have the channel, but Funimation has an anime channel you can get with uverse etc that shows anime all day. I not sure of anymore that show anime. Syfy used too.
Don't even know how Tim and Eric remains, maybe its something funny when high. Only show I look forward to is The Venture Bros and I just have that DVR'd so I don't even have to turn to the channel anymore.
Aside from the anime AS did have some good shows in its past such as sealab2021, Harvey Birdman, and Frisky Dingo to name a few. the writing for those shows were funny, original, and not live action. Really whoever thought live action shows on a cartoon network would be a good idea needs to be slapped.
Add Boondocks and VB; subtract the past few seasons of ATHF for myself, outside of these it just seems like AS treads water. I can't imagine how much worse it will get when they shove an hour of the Cleveland Show in (six fucking hours of Fox animated comedy spammed on weeknights: Family Guy-American Dad-Cleveland Show). They also are apparently entertaining more seasons of T&E and their other live-action shows (which aren't as horrible, but still); so there's that I guess too. It kind of is like channel drift, except its not resulted in reality TV spam (yet); at the same time however the live-action shit is also popping up outside of AS too ("CN Real" or something laughable).
Unfortunately, FiOS dropped the Funimation Channel; Ani(day of the week) dying on Sci-Fi pretty much narrowed the field to basicly AS and a 4Kids hackjob block on some channel.
