Windows Installation Missing on Boot & Recovery

Currently dealing with being unable to boot to Windows 7 along with Windows Recovery being unable to detect the install. More has happened previously so I'll break down how this began and what I've tried to bring me here and hopefully get me past this problem.

On Sunday morning I went to start my laptop and was greeted with a black screen and blinking cursor. I'd used it the night before, shut it down normally and saw nothing that would indicate any problems. Obviously this is pretty ambiguous as far as errors go, but google threw up a lot of suggestions of attempting to fix the MBR and boot sector. Attempting relevant /fixmbr, /fixboot and /rebuildBCD commands in recovery between various restarts turned up nothing when booting and using /showos also reveals no OS detected. I ran chkdsk /R and threw my hands up for awhile after it changed nothing.

From there I started attempting recovery tools. The laptop's single hard drive used a single NTFS partition for Windows and when checking Gparted I found that the entire drive was marked as unallocated. More googling left me trying diskpart, testdisk and again gparted to correct the partition back to NTFS which worked, but still would not boot. From here I tried using an ubuntu live CD to try fixing the MBR and boot sector again, but got nowhere and went back to trying Windows Recovery. Hoped to do a Windows Repair Install but found it can only be done through a booted Windows install so I'm unsure where to go from now. Earlier on in the process Recovery would at least display the drive and the BCD entry for the Windows install, but now something seems to have happened to the file system as only "Unknown" is displayed when using Windows Recovery and GParted shows NTFS errors on the partition and recommends using chkdsk /f which I can't do due to an error it throws up about the drive being write protected.

Obviously this is a huge clusterfuck and I'm imagining all suggestions to be to reinstall Windows, but I'd love to try to fucking fix this. I was able to backup the entire drive with DiskCopy but not knowing why this occurred or how to fix this is driving me crazy, especially if I can expect it to happen again. Tools to test drive errors have showed no problems so as far as I can tell the drive itself isn't dying and causing all of this. Thanks for any help!

If this is a wash, tips on restoring installed programs and settings would be great lol.

its sounds like the disk is dead/dying. it happened to me too was able to use the laptop fine for a weekend and then on monday the disk was gone. the built in BIOS utility did detect problems with the drive but i could copy all without issues.

in short the disk might be failing.

I'll see if an extended disk health test shows any indications because at this point I'd be happy just to know something specific like that is actually happening and this isn't one long drawn-out nonsensical fuckup.

Listen closely for the drive making ticking/clicking noises. I'm going with dead drive inc. I had similar problems recently and I had to replace mine.

I ran every utility in the book and they all told me the disk was fine. It wasn't.
