also speaking the 'wrong french' only applies if you go to france
speaking back-country quebec french in paris would be like playing the bicycle horn or bagpipes made of a live goose in the middle of a violin or flute solo

Ty howie for your comments too! It does seem more and more likely we're going to start putting that in his list of options. You make a good point though I should do some research on what do they do with healthcare for work visas, since that's what we'd be on.
fuck, i want to be back in Montreal and just nail hot chicks all day
I speak high school french so nobody knows wtf I'm saying.
lord knows, the opportunities were everywhere if I wasn't such a sad sack
What about french in vancouver? I may get a hold of like a rosetta stone thing to mess around with in the time being. It may never happen, but it helps to be prepared.
you won't need french in vancouver at all
also like shiro said cost of living is extremely high
Yeah, french isn't as big a thing to Canadians as is advertised.
Automatic bumped up pay grade basically. Everyday use though, never.
yeah bilingual jobs invariably pay better, all across canada
useless job? minimum wage
useless job [Jon Stewart On Weed..?? voice] in French..?? 1.5x that or so
ah ok well that makes it a lot easier. Do you guys know what the job market is for teachers in vancouver then? I guess when hubby is around I'll try to get a general idea of what area in vancouver the jobs tend to be so we can look at what rents would be like in the general area. Since it seems like you guys have good transportation there, I don't mind living a little bit outside of the central areas if it means we can take a train/sub to w/e we'd need to go for work.
What's the weather like there? O.o;;;;;;
;;;;;;;;;;;;
the teachers market is really bad in Ontario, there's too many teachers not retiring due to the recent economic tough times
apparently it will get better in 2 years when some of them die or something
you'll probably be okay if you teach primary though, I don't know 100% at the moment. you could try contacting OISE (it's a teacher's college in Toronto) and they could probably direct you to a good resource if they don't know the info you're looking for. Just pretend you're an applying Canadian student looking to do the 1 year program

Toronto is close to Lake Ontario so we usually have it a bit warmer, and when the rest of Southern Ontario has snow, we don't. Our Summers aren't that spectacular, we get a lot of middle of the road weather, and our winters of course tend toward the cold side of things but extreme highs and extreme lows have been diminishing in the last 10 years, for all seasons
Vagus lives in Van city, so you could ask him about job markets I guess.
No idea about the job market for teachers in Vancouver.
Vancouver public transport is pretty good and their SkyTrain (rapid transit system) runs out to a couple of the cities in Greater Vancouver.
Weather is nice and mild year round from my understanding. Doesn't get too much below freezing (if at all?) in Winter and doesn't get too hot in the summer most of the time.
