Varlamov is a beast, just can't stay healthy. He and Giggy kept that terrible Avs team afloat and in the playoff hunt for a long time. After the end of the year I read a few pieces on how Colorado is still quite happy with that trade.

This. I loved Varly but he was injured so often that the team decided to give Neuvirth the starting job in the playoffs and Varly wasn't happy, so he had to go. The team actually showed the highlights of his first start in COL on the Jumbotron at the Lightning game I went to in Oct., we wish him well (though we hoped for the team to suck a bit more this year for a higher pick..) Caps were able to move him because we are actually pretty stacked with young Goalies, they just don't have a ton of experience.

Holtby is a goofy dude though, it's part of why he is so cool and collected back there, nothing seems to faze him because he is just having fun. I'm sure we will be seeing plenty of highlights of him doing weird shit in the future.

I think he's more talking about the rigors of a full season being the #1 on a team trying to contend. It's sort of easy to come in under the radar as a backup but how players handle expectations is always fun to watch.

That said, Holtby is a boss and I've been wanting him to take over for over a year now. His ability to challenge and his personality really remind me of Kolzig.

Somehow this series is more devastating than last year versus Vancouver. I can legit hate on Vancouver. It's not Detroit-hate, but it's a rivalry that has a good foundation. Honestly last year we had no goddamn business in the playoffs to begin with, so it made Game 7 awesome just because.
