Bit late to the party cuz I was driving to airport during the Ranger game, and thus heard the whole game on 1050 ESPN NY radio. Just wanted to say that in terms of saying bad things about the refs, Dave Maloney either has immunity to fines or you can just say whatever you want on the radio. I say this because he spent the better part of the first and second periods slamming the refs for bad calls. And I mean he was really lacing into them, to the point I thought he was gonna start dropping F-bombs lol

Perhaps the same rules don't apply on the radio as TV or something. Who knows...

radio and tv people aren't employed by the league or the NHLPA so they can pretty much say what they want unless their employer has an issue with it.

Anyone not on NBC can more or less say what they want, but NHL and NBC are pretty tightly entwined at this point, and every game that isn't one of the few CBC restreams put on NHLN are done by people under the employ of NBC, so you probably won't see a lot of ref criticism.

As far as US television ratings, yeah pretty much the worst possible outcome. If Florida and Ottawa win it will be similarly bad. However, as a hockey fan I don't give a shit and just want entertaining games, which is usually pretty likely in the playoffs no matter what people say about teams trapping or whatnot.
