Wrap up from Pens final media day and exit physicals in Pittsburgh:

Injuries
Niskanen had been suffering from a separated shoulder. (decently well known)

Steve Sullivan had a hairline fracture in his foot and was getting shots before every game. (mentioned offhand, was believed to be bruise or break)

James Neal's mystery injury he was getting 'maintenance days' for and never practicing because of was a broken finger.

Kris Letang's long hip problem from the past few years was apparently a lot worse this year and hes finally giving surgery serious thought.

Everyone else was fine. Except Paul Martin, who 'had concussion-like symptoms.' LOL yeah. Okay.

Worlds
Malkin, Michalek both going to world championships.
Fleury declines invitation since he would likely only see 1 game of action tops since Cam Ward was already declared starter.
Crosby leaning towards declining as a pre-caution.
Letang, Neal declining due to injury.

Ray Shero said pretty emphatically the big 3 would all still be on the roster come October and Dan Bylsma and both assistants will also retain their positions. Gave no such statement regarding the defensemen, saying it would be evaluated. Cited his time in Nashville as assistant GM, with Suter and Weber both spending time in the AHL, that Morrow and Despres won't be rushed just cause the pro D had issues.

If the award is going to be handed out partially biased on career body of work, Lundqvist gets it. If the award is going to be handed out based solely on this season and that goalie's importance to their team, Quick gets it. Rinne had a great season but has no chance.

It's Lundqvist imo easily. Quick should get more votes in the Hart race (don't think he'll even be top 5 though). The biggest thing to me for Lundqvist is him posting the numbers he did against the toughest division in hockey, including two of the highest scoring teams in the Pens and Flyers. Pekka is deserving of the number 3 spot, but that's as far as he goes. Though people are up in arms about him being nominated; guy played 73 games, won 43, was in the Central, and still put up very solid numbers; that is an unbelievable workload. Pacific division is no slouch, but Atlantic and Central blow it away in terms of regular season difficulty imo.

That said, I wouldn't have been upset if Mike Smith took #3. Guy played 67 games and had better numbers than Peks.

For what its worth, Rangers lost their season series against Philly (0-6), Pittsburgh (2-4), and only split with the Devils (3-3). Additionally, you seem to place a lot of weight on workload - and Lundqvist had less games played than Quick, Rinne, and Mike Smith.
