This seriously cannot happen. There are so many things wrong if Phoenix makes the finals. TV ratings will be abysmal. It will be boring. It will inspire other teams to copy-cat clone the Phoenix way of play. It will make Mike Smith look like a god among goalies, where, I bet if you put him back in Tampa, he'd suck ass again cause still no one realizes 90% of goalie performance is actually simply how the team in front of them plays. Its the same reason why when Bryzgalov left he looked suddenly run-of-the-mill. Suspicions (likely to go unproven) about NHL collusion to get Phoenix there will grow more than they already have. For the love of God, LA has to win. Even if they play defense-first too, they play with a little less D and a little more O (and a little more star power notoriety with Doughty and Richards, and Carter/Quick/Kopitar on a second tier amongst casual fair weather fans) than PHX and they also are at least big market and Sportscenter will ride the fuck out of that compared to normal NHL coverage since ESPN has a SC studio in LA. LA-NYR would be the best possible finals at this point for growth of the sport and the league.

1) Technically Phoenix games aren't boring since there's tons of scoring chances...it's just that 99.8% of them belong to whoever they're playing.

2) I don't think that much should be taken away from Smith, at least not for this year. He's not a Miller/Rinne, and he may be in a goalie-friendly system, but he's still made some phenomenal saves all season. I bet he'll be back down to earth next year.

Bryzgalov is so bad.... between goals 1 and 2 by the Devils the Devils almost scored 2-3 softies on him then, too... shots trickling by him through the paint and him looking the wrong way on fanned shots, etc.

If I understand the rules correctly, that play was in fact offsides, I believe if you lift your skate that is in the blue line off the ice it doesn't count as being across it, I'm pretty sure I got called offsides on that exact same scenario in a men's league game.
