Solanis' megalomania never gets old. No, actually, it does, because of how shitty of a human being it makes one look.
I'm surprised you didn't call the dude a wellfare queen since he's surviving on Pell Grant; that's about the level of respect you gave off in your post anyways.
Also, if you say throwing money at CS is bad then you must be the Kevin O'Leary of investors(in personality, obviously) or have some underlying issues with CS personally.
Solanis is a joke, no need to take seriously. Dude's life wouldn't be able to pay the deductible on my car's insurance.
I don't know about in Florida, but in Texas you can get a job with the state in corrections, which not only pays you like 15$ an hour and work around your school. It also gives you uniforms, they let you eat in the cafeteria place, dry clean your uniforms for you, and they had dorm rooms that cost you 12$ or so a month and free health ins. My friend worked there all through college and only spent his money on food and his cell phone.
If you're willing to spend time abroad, once you have a college degree you could consider teaching English in either Japan or Korea. Doesn't really matter what your degree is, as long as you have a degree you should be able to qualify for JET, EPIK, ETIS, etc. You'd get paid more if you had an education degree, English degree, or TESOL certification, but you can make pretty decent money with simply a bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
I'm teaching here now unofficially, and I never even finished my degree ^^; I make ~$600 a month for tutoring on weekends, and I get a tuition reduction for my kids since I'm helping teach English in their elementary school.
Just read this whole thread - and I'm a bit saddened. I hate reading about how students can't get help for jack shit - and how people need to sublet their rooms out to strangers just to keep their homes, and all that shit.
But let's keep things in perspective, and not forget who the real victim is in all of this.
Spoiler: show
nah actually solanis is correct here, you guys are mistaken. Real talk
This must depend a lot on the school and the state. Where I live being a student is quite easy as they get PELL grants and Student loans. Even after all the schooling is paid for they can have an extra 4-5k in extra money to draw out in cash to pay for whatever they choose every 4 months. It's not hard to live rather well on 12-15k a year but it's best not to. Most students are encouraged to pick up a part time job. Hearing about students that are subletting their rooms out is insane. If a person was able to afford their home before they became a student they should be able to now. My question to them would be, What changed?
That's actually what I was planning on doing anyways, provided I don't get into pharmacy school. I'm working on a bachelor's in Biology now to take more science related courses (biochem, micro, etc.) that will look good for pharm school, but not interested in any biology type jobs so if I finish this degree and still haven't gotten into pharm school, was planning on heading to Korea.
You're in florida aren't you cs? I was actually planning non going back to school for the same thing. Any pharm schools in florida that looked good to you?
REPORT POST!!Solanis is a joke
UF is the biggest one, then there's Nova, famu (blax school, I'd avoid unless it's the only option), Palm beach Atlantic (private), LECOM (Private), USF (relatively new) that I can think of off the top of my head.
Nova is really close to me, but what do you know of the quality compared to uf?
Its a big move to go from home to gainesville for UF, but if the quality (and job prospects) are better, ill do it.
FAMU has an awesome pharmacy school and happens to be in my city. Just don't live near actual FAMU campus and you will be fine. Also if you are considering going to pharmacy school, look into getting a job as a pharmacy tech with CVS or Walgreens. When I worked for Walgreens a few years ago, they had pharmacy school programs where the company would pay for your pharmacy school costs 100% as long as you signed a contract saying you would only be a pharmacist with their company for X amount of years.
I'd shoot for being a Pharmacist in a hospital at all costs. They will work you to the bone in CVS/Walgreens if you can't get a nicer job at a Sweetbay. As if the job isn't hard enough, but yeah, I've heard some horror stories from when I did my externship as a PharmTech. 12hr shifts with 0-1 techs helping you would be a living hell.
