Sty in eye

I've only got one once, but outside the warm cloth people suggested my eye doctor had me try to wash it out regularly (maybe once every 3-4 hours) with some saline solution. GL though! I hated it when I got mine.

That is pretty gross, but I think it is pretty unusual for styes too.

Styes are pretty normal from what I understand, like those fucking bullshit pimples that show up inside your earlobes and hurt like a motherfucker if you touch them (except styes don't usually hurt).

However, OP says both eyes are feeling weird? Don't styes usually show up in one eye and not both at once?

I had one a couple years ago, my first and only one so far thank god, if that's the way my eyes behave when one comes around. It was extremely large and sat on my upper eyelid for 3 months. Nothing I did made it go away - I tried warm and/or washcloths periodically and/or constantly, I tried teabags, I tried every home remedy I could find because shit, I had 3 fucking months to experiment. Eventually it just shrank away veeerrry slowly until it was gone. To this day there is a very difficult-to-see scar on my eyelid where it used to be because the flesh was swollen for so long. I have no idea why it lasted that long and why nothing I did helped it drain. It was very disappointing and very difficult to play FFXI while holding a cloth to my face, not to mention I scared some customers at work who thought it might be pinkeye.

Yeah both of my eyes are feeling funny but my left one is the only one that shows some signs of a sty, while the right eye has the same feeling as the left one, but nothing noticeable on the surface, so that one might be underneath the eyelid.

I'm hoping the stinging from the teabag I used was just the tannins killing the bacteria. I definitely noticed a reduction in size/pain after one treatment so I'll return to it again tomorrow.

Not quite the same thing, but anyone have any idea what this is? This is the third one I've had, it's a small hard bump under the skin near my eye, the size of a pinhead or so. I had one two years ago or so around the same spot that stuck out a lot more, and at one point I scratched it open and was able to push out whatever was in there. It's not a pimple or anything, because it doesn't go away. I read it's skin cells that get trapped under the skin, and that astringent helps, but with it so close to my eye, I don't want to put anything like that on the area. The one I had close to my tear duct I don't remember how I got rid of, but I think I had scratched that open too, that one was bigger, maybe a bit bigger than a grain of salt.

So I don't think it's a full sty yet, knock on wood, but this morning I felt what seemed like pressure on both my eyeballs when I blinked. Finally did some examining once I got off work and noticed that it's my eyelids that are sensitive. On my left eyelid, the bottom part of the top lid looks a little bit swollen but it's hard to tell. Never had a sty before but my boss had one last summer and the thing looked terrible.

Anyone have any experience with them? Can I catch these early and try to stop them before they're fully blown? What are some treatment options?

as said before compress with warm cloth, also if you use contacts or glasses make sure you keep the lenses clean and the contact case changed as recommended

I had one that was to the point where I could barely see at all out of one of my eyes as there was just a huge black blindspot there. The doctor gave me some cream that I had to apply to edge of my lids. Was a pain in the ass but took the swelling down in about a week or so.

I'd definitely go get it seen to if the teabag method doesn't work as whenever I've had them, they always got far worse before they got better.

Alright, last question - woke up this morning and little whitehead-looking thing developed, but problem: it's right underneath the eyelid and I think it's pressing against my eyeball, at least it looks like it is. Can I safely hold a compress to my eye while the sty is where it is? Will it rupture and spread the infection inside my eye if it happens?

I used a lipton lemon tea thing and it only stung a bit at first, after awhile it just felt good man

Some of you are mixing up styes and chalezions. Styes usually go away within a week, and usually occur at the edge of your eyelids over the skin. Chalezions usually occur below the eyelid slightly further up from the edge and can last up to years if you're unlucky (I have one right now on my left eyelid that's been there for like 3 months now). Usually if you have that lump and it's hardened, that means it's calcified and you more than likely have to see a doctor to get it cut open and have the dried up pus and shit scraped out so the chalezion can drain properly. Downside to this is, it leaves a scar and you can only have it done so many times in your life before a ophthalmologist will refuse to do anymore.

I have a chronic affliction of this shit because my pores suck balls. If I slip up with cleaning my eye lids (glass of water, 3 drops of baby shampoo, something to swab your eyelids), I usually have a high chance of getting one if I touch my eyes without washing my hands.

Anyway, like people said, if you suspect you're getting one, you want to put hot compresses on your eyes. The best would be as much as you can maybe 4 times a day but after you wake up and before you go to sleep is fine too.

One method of making a compress I use is to get a damp washcloth, put it in a ziplock (but don't close it), and depending on how strong your microwave is, put in there for a minute. Push the excess air out, then close the ziplock, then use something as a buffer like a paper towel or a shirt so you don't burn yourself because it's that hot. You can also soak a cotton ball into something, and place it in between your eyelid and your buffer to help the sty or whatever come to a head.

If your sty or chalezion comes to a white head, that's a good thing because that means it's gonna explode and drain soon. If you're seeing pus, make sure you use an antibiotic cream to ensure that your eye doesn't become infected again. You can usually tell if your shit is infected if there's redness around the sty/chalezion and a dull pain.

My friend has had this shit on his eye since like september, went to the doctor and everything they gave him (some special eye drops or something) doesn't work. I guess I'll tell him to look up chalezion...

It's spelled chalazion.

It's what I had - not a stye - but when I told anyone, even an optometrist, about it, they said they did not know what a chalazion is, and kept calling it a stye because that's the more common affliction, so I eventually just started calling it that too. Chalazions are indeed a whole different ballgame, they are to styes what warts are to pimples. The best way to treat a chalazion, apparently, is with a steroid treatment applied by a doctor.

A friend of mine will boil an egg and apply it to his eye (obviously let it cool a little before doing so). Apparently it retains its heat a lot better than a warm rag will. You can reheat it repeatedly as necessary.

I promise, the method that I posted will last you more than 20 mins which is about the optimal time to place the heat in on your eye.

Also if your eye doctor doesn't know what a chalazion is, id be afraid to find out what else they don't know.
