Tribble slows down and stops and appears prepared to be arrested. But an officer, identified as Tyrane Isaac, rushes up to him and takes a swing at his head.

The teen ducks the blow and then can be seen retreating — with his hands up — to a storefront gate.

Officer David Afanador — his gun drawn — then catches up and rushes straight to Tribble, hitting him in the his face with his gun, breaking a front tooth and chipping another.
Isaac punches Tribble again and pushes him onto his stomach.

The video ends with Afanador waving the bag in front of Tribble’s face before smacking him with it.
Patrick Lynch, the police union president, said the tape does not tell the entire tale.

“As usual, the video fails to capture the offense that resulted in police action or the lengthy foot pursuit that culminated in the arrest," he said.

"Situations like this one happen in real time under great stress. It’s very easy to be judgmental in the comfort of an office while sitting in front of a video screen."

You retort with an example of a cop doing the wrong thing as an example of...a cop doing the wrong thing. Then use that same example to generalize that if this cop does something wrong, all cops do something wrong.

Guess all Muslims are terrorists too huh? I should tell my children to beware of black people, they're gonna rob them if they're not extra careful.

This blind defense of cops is absolutely ridiculous. Qal is right (this hurts to say). At some point in this closed loop there needs to be some accountability.

It's because we have fundamental differences in opinions on what to take from this. Some think it's the cops fault for pulling the trigger, others think it's a tragic mistake where blame can't be assigned solely to the police because circumstances.

With the logic being presented, the injuries and damage to property stemming from SWATing is also the cops fault because...oh wait it's not their fault, is it?

Or maybe they're concerned with discouraging false police reports, and providing incentive for the police to double-check their shit before they potentially execute unarmed/innocent civilians, so this type of situation is less likely to happen in the first place?

There was fault involved in all parties, and people need to be held accountable and educated about it. If I'm cooking burgers and the neighbor calls the fire department because they see smoke and the truck rolls up, sees some smoke, and causes severe water damage to my house without investigating no one would try to excuse it. Some basic effort needs to be expended to verify that what a caller is saying is true, same as what we were saying about people being SWATted. With how much shit you give witness accounts for being unreliable and biased in the Ferguson thread it's ridiculous that you say a witness who calls in a tip has to be treated as 100% verified fact and go in assuming the worst and prepared to kill someone. That attitude and approach is fundamentally flawed and being paranoid doesn't excuse it.

Holy fuck qal, get out of my head. I shit you not, I said almost the exact same thing to a friend in regards to the John Crawford incident. In regards to that one I think the family should have the right to sue Walmart for a fucking fortune, because they sell the gun then reported someone walking around with it. Fuck. These people did NOT deserve to have their lives ended.

How do you double check a phone call that (paraphrase) says "a group of guys at this local gas station are brandishing a firearm"? The world does not operate in a vacuum, the longer they wait, the higher the chance some one will be hurt.

Before you begin, the only reason this kid died is because he acted the exact wrong way to this situation. Hands in pocket? telling cops to fuck off? There's a reason his friends are alive and he isn't. Also, is it true he had suicidal tendencies? I guess cop assisted suicide isn't a possible thing in your opinion either, even if they're truthfully unarmed.

This wasn't a dark alley at 2 am, it was the middle of the day, full sun, from 5 feet away. The cop fired, not because he saw a gun, not because he mistook something in his hand for a weapon, but just because the guy didn't move the way he wanted.

You could say he *sunglasses* jumped the gun

Why don't cops shoot open carry people if the concern is "waving a gun around"?

A Habersham County grand jury has decided not to charge any of the law enforcement officers involved in the botched drug raid that disfigured a toddler.

Nineteen-month-old Bounkham “Bou Bou” Phonesavanh’s nose was detached from his face after a stun grenade landed in his playpen during the raid, carried out by a Habersham SWAT team in May. According to an incident report obtained from the Habersham sheriff’s office, deputies were told to anticipate a cache of weapons and armed guards at the home. A search inside turned up neither guns nor drugs. Wanis Thonetheva, who didn’t even live at the house, was arrested later that day without incident and charged only with possession of methamphetamine.

Yes archi, if a cop has his firearm aimed at you, moving the way a cop doesn't want you to move will get you shot. You disagree with this? It's like people think its ok to think "I didn't do anything wrong, so even though this cop has his gun aimed at me I will not get fired upon because I'm innocent".

In context, he was told repeatably to stop moving and put his hands up. He does not comply and walks away. They repeat, and he turns around and tells them to fuck off. Now, since most of you probably missed this, before hes shot he also lifts up his shirt as he moves his hands sideways. So lets make a list:

    1. Called to scene of a trio of kids brandishing weapon(s)
    2. One does not comply and continues to walk away (even when his friends comply)
    3. He tells him something along the lines of "fuck off" (the sound sucks, it seems like hes saying somethingsomething foo, or fuck off)
    4. He also lifts up his shirt after he finally decides to take his hands out of his pocket

But the cops are to blame for his death? I don't agree. And no one has yet to provide a convincing argument for why this is the officers fault.

You're not from here, so I'll forgive your ignorance, but open carry people are not "waving their gun around". It's in a holster or visible in a case and theres a big difference from having a firearm visible on your person, and "waving it around". If a cop suspects a person has a concealed weapon and they are non-compliant and even go so far as to lift up their shirt (where a concealed firearm could be), you expect them to wait for the first shot from the suspect before subduing them? I believe your answer would be yes, at which point we'll have to agree to disagree because fundamentally we just don't see the problem as the same thing.

    5. After the shooting. The officer applied first aid and attempted to keep the man alive until Medics arrived. (Before searching him. A.k.a he didn't know at this time he had no weapon)

But the cops are to blame for his death? I don't agree. And no one has yet to provide a convincing argument for why this is the officers fault.
Added a 5th step for you.

I think people just want to blame someone, its natural. I'm not sure were accountability should be had though. This cop didn't just open fire outside the gas station killing all 3. They ordered them to put their hands up, 2 complied, they lived, the third did not. The police didn't just open fire as he walked away either, no, they followed him, issued verbal commands several times, the boy continued to walk away, ignoring them and even responding quite poorly... they repeated again and he then maneuvered in a way that is common for moving/pulling at something around the waistband(a common place for a gun to be tucked), Including lifting his shirt. I know these gestures could be interpreted differently if you're grasping for straws, but the cop went into the situation under report of them carrying a firearm.

If I told a policeman holding a gun at me to fuck off and walked backwards facing them and then gestured for my waistband? I'd expect to be fucking gunned down regardless of how innocent I am, because i'm making stupid choices and escalating the situation directly based off my actions. I'm not denying there are plenty examples of bad cops doing dumb shit and escalating situations out of control and doing countless bad/wrong things that end up with a dead man. This situation is not one of them. this cop did his best under a situation where he was acting on inaccurate information, and attempted several times to deescalate it with verbal commands, and even went as far as attempting to keep the man alive after the incident.

There are bad cops who do stupid shit... this guy wasn't one of them.

Its not a "blind" defense when the evidence is clearly presented. Theres more "Blind hate" of cops than there is ever blind defense. These people didn't even know he was white, what does that tell you? They thought it was another black kid being shot by a white cop... they didn't even .. know... he was white. if you want "Blind" well there you go.

Theres a skit on Key and Peele, season 3 ep 13 where Key is a cop telling Peele to stop moving and put his hands up. Peele doesn't listen and slowly moves away, and Key keeps telling him to stop moving. Peele still doesn't listen, and slowly opens his car door. Key continues telling him not to dare move, as Peele slowly moves to his glove box. Key is still going on, warning him, and Peele slowly pulls out his gun and slowly draws it upon Key. As soon as he does, Key goes "god damnit not again" and lowers his gun and surrenders as Peele gets in his car and drives away.

This is how the majority of BG feels cops should react to a situation. It's so fucking ludicrous lol.

The cop didn't have information that this particular suspect had a gun. He did not see any weapon - he didn't even think he saw a weapon. He did not accurately perceive the threat level from this very drunk guy with headphones on and used deadly force unnecessarily.

Do I think he made an honest mistake? Yeah. But the difference between good and bad police work is making the correct decisions in high-stress situations. His mistake lead to a needless death, and there should be repercussions for making mistakes that kill people.

It's weird that I even have to make this argument.

I thought Sal was being excessive with the Kel and Peel example but christ on a stick you legitimate want the man to be holding a gun screaming "Die pigs" before he's shot lol...

No, but really... If i'm completely honest with myself I can see where you're coming from, as it sounds reasonable. but I have to disagree. He did have information that one of these suspects had a weapon. The 911 call wasn't just "Some thugs round town flashing a gun, theres 3 of them", it was a description of all 3, down to the shirts they wore, and that they were flashing a gun. Based off this, he went into the situation with the expectations of possible deadly force (Which is why his weapon was drawn), which was the correct procedure when approaching suspects believed to be armed. If the 911 call did not report a gun, he would not have went in with his weapon drawn, and I suspect it would have ended quite differently. So yes, he had information of a firearm, just because he couldn't see one doesn't mean it couldn't be there, such as, idk, under your shirt tucked in the waistband. where the subject actually reached for.

But you are right int hat he didn't see the weapon... what he saw an act common with the retrieval of a concealed weapon. I won't deny I see your point of view, I see where you're coming from, in the video I did get the feeling "man he shot pretty quick" when the situation we're talking about came up (the part of the gesturing for a weapon/waistband). I mean, dude coulda just been pulling up his pants. But I don't think the cop should lose his job over it or anything, and I'm not sure what the proper punishment should be... retraining him on identifying crisis situations based on inaccurate dispatch information?
