ahh ok, that doesn't mean this could end up also treating it though. The plant grows like a weed so if it can also help, that would be huge.

was wondering if anyone saw this.. nothing violent... just shows how differently certain officers treat you based on how dark your skin is. thought it was great that the attorney got involved.

    http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/10/a...-neighborhood/

The video, which was posted online by the Washington Post, shows white attorney Jody Westby coming to the aid of black handyman Dennis Stucky, who has been stopped by two officers and is sitting on a curb in the upscale Foxhall Crescent neighborhood.

Westby asks the officers – one standing near the curb and another sitting in a patrol car — why Stucky has been stopped, and they tell her he’s suspected in a burglary.

The attorney, who had asked her housekeeper to record the incident on a cell phone, demands to know which address the call came from, and she approaches the cruiser to verify the information.

Saw this along with the stop and frisk near the D.C. Library:

To be fair, it's a totally different department where those two incidents occurred. The 1st and the 2nd Districts of D.C. Police are the places you go to retire. There's a club zone near Georgetown where shit pops off, and some areas around the 1st District (richville) that has some skirmishes, but nothing like it is down in the 6th and 7th. These guys just go around harassing the shit out of people and generally don't do anything (you see how the Sergeant didn't even get out of the car!).

This has been brought up before from the BJS timelines.

If you go by the stats per capita (since there's less blacks than whites in America) then statistically, yes. However, more whites are still killed by police than blacks off the raw numbers.

If you dive deep in to the data, you'll eventually start identifying where it occurs most often. Police shootings generally occur more in the poor communities where violent crimes are more likely to occur. Less racially diverse areas (like Ferguson), show a greater amount of killings per capita if you adjust for the race ratio of a specific area.

Then, you start to find the psychopathic ones. These are primarily rural American lands with more whites per capita in the region. Those killings are the most violent, and shows the wealth disparity across most of America than you see in more populated metropolitan and urbanized settings.

It's all pretty interesting data to look at by and by. I'm interested to see if this is new data or just another article on already published data. With killings by police averaging around 700 per year, it shouldn't take long for someone to compile the data and case files on the cases to see how the deceased were killed (weapons involved, Deadly Force against the police, etc.) I want some sources!!

It was discussed in the Michael Brown thread about just how fucking hard it is to do that, given the poor bookkeeping, no small amount of police corruption and low-quality journalism that surrounds killed-by-officer cases.

Click on the table to see a breakdown from '03 - '09. The numbers are a bit lower these days, but still around 6-700

The officer told Mahone, 47, she was stopped for not wearing her seatbelt and asked for her driver's license. The officer also asked to see Jones' identification, according to both police and the lawsuit.

Mahone produced her license, but Jones told the officer he had been ticketed for not paying his insurance and did not have his license, the lawsuit states.

Jones claims the officer drew his gun "for no reason" after Jones retrieved the ticket from his backpack and "offered the ticket to the officer."
Officers claimed Jones refused to show ID (video shown says otherwise). Driver called 911 after the cops pulled a gun on them terrified for their lives. Passenger refused to get out of the car because of it, so cop smashes in window and tasers him....with their two children in the back seat.

I don't even give a shit the guy was refusing to get out. You don't fucking break glass with FUCKING CHILDREN around over a fucking seatbelt.

[edit] I should also add the cops defense claims that the passenger "kept reaching into the back seat" so they were afraid he was trying to reach for a gun. Where in the video before the window breaking did he reach into the back seat? It's pretty fucking bullshit all around.

Classic "he's going for a gun" argument along with typical CYA bullshit when a cop gets caught doing something wrong and he knows he was wrong. It is not exclusive cop behavior though. Everyone wants to say I didn't do it, or they made me do it, or it wasn't my fault, etc. Especially when they are 8 years old. The difference here is their are deadly consequences. At least the cop chose to not use deadly force.

I've seen reports that the encounter was actually closer to around 15 minutes of the guy refusing to show ID to the cops, but your link only starts about 2 minutes before they break the window. Maybe I'm just full on tinfoil hat, but it feels like people are purposely provoking the police (hence the tons of video footage out there), but they very rarely show the beginning of the encounter and just the "OMG, the cops are picking on me" moments.

Yes, I'm sure there are people out there embracing the risk of death when trying to get their 15mins of fame by fucking with the police.

If you don't believe there are people who would do that you are sticking your head deep into the sand or up your own ass, because frankly, people that crazy do exist.

But thats besides the point on this particular video and I don't think what he was implying, the situation did last a significant while before they started recording... I'm not sure its all in that article, but it is in the original. Also, as far as "ZOMG BREAKING GLASS", Glass of side windows in cars aren't normal "Cut you to pieces glass", it shatters in kinda cubes/chunks, I've been sprayed with some myself when i was young (10~12) because a rock from a lawnmower hit the side window shattering it. It did nothing to me. Its not dangerous to shatter, if anything its more emotional trauma than physical for the children involved, which actually kind of sucks still and doesn't cheapen it.

Anyway, I'll agree it was kind of a dick move on the police. I think the gentlemen should have done this thing called "cooperating", but it felt kinda like a pissing contest and the police decided to play a trump card. Its funny how almost all of these "omg bad cop" videos start and end with the "victim" being an uncooperative prick, and being met with equal Prick-ness. Still, the victims are not blameless and didn't we already post this =.=a

Crazy people with a death wish exist, more news at eleven.

More police getting caught on video doing stupid/heinous shit = people trying to get some lulz/fame? That's bankrupt logic, I have no idea how you can even entertain that idea.

Me? I think that idea because of what happens after the video is taken. I can understand a reluctance to go to the police, but how about a lawyer? Instead, it seems the first thing they do is post it online and maybe get in contact with the media. Maybe its just some of my technophobia, but it feels like people are constantly whipping out their cameras to record stuff. I've had it happen it at work when some kid comes up to the ticket podium (work at a theatre), tries to make a scene about not being able to buy an R-rated ticket without an id, while he has a buddy holding his phone up behind him.

I don't think these people are thinking about possible consequences, and are just hoping for a payday. Feels like a shift over time, an evolution to some peoples behavior around the police. I recall witnessing on multiple occasions the police trying to talk to somebody, and somebody appears to run interference, getting in the cops face and distracting them. Now, they just pull out a camera, trying to get "proof" that the police are picking on them for no reason.

I almost wish I could believe that the cops are in the wrong 99% of the time, but my experience and worldview won't let me. In this day and age, it appears everybody is out for themselves, wildly exaggerating stories and situations, hoping to get something free out of the deal. With the police, or any public official, I'm afraid people just think that the government is rich and will throw money at them to make the "problem" go away.

I personally saw nothing wrong with the tactics. The police can order you out of the vehicle on a traffic stop, even passengers. You're not required to carry ID if you're not controlling the vehicle, but are required to identify yourself (which he did not). The video does not show the beginning of the stop, so context is everything. He could have very well been a raving psychopath before the camera went on, and played innocent victim once it came on.

Also, people are so quick to take to the streets and spread it all over the news after stuff like this happens. That's a stupid idea. If your story "goes viral" and everyone has seen it, chances are no jury will be unbiased when they walk in that courtroom. In my experience, the cases that are kept quiet and exposed after have a far greater chance of winning than the publicity stunt before trial routine. But, don't take my word for it. There's a small baby who got hit with a flashbang who'll back me up.

But you refuse to believe that people would "shorten" videos to the "good part" of the "popo being unnecessarily abusive", not a hypocritical statement at all!
