It didnt just magically turn into 60 cars as soon as the car backfired...thats a lot of escalation. Not once in that 30 minutes did the driver look in his rear view window? Be completely oblivious to the flashing red and blue lights? Not hear the fucking sirens?!?

Never the "victim's" fault, the cops needlessly escalated the situation by chasing two unarmed black people, etc.

That's why the officer was only charged with manslaughter, and will probably beat that charge, to be honest. The people shot in this instance do not magically get absolved of responsibility just because they're killed unjustly. Why did they run? What else was found in the car? Did they have warrants? Why an elementary school parking lot to end the chase where you drove over 100mph? Don't you know that the police will double their efforts to stop you if you go to a school?

Not to say Brelo shouldn't be charged. I dunno what transpired after the chase ended to lead him to jump on the vehicle and start shooting... But that seems pretty stupid. Unless there car is disabled, you can easily get yourself killed doing something stupid like that. Crossfire shots too? Never put yourself that close without backup.

Maybe they panicked, and ran. Yeah, it's dumb, but if they're scared, mistakes happen. Maybe by the time they realized they shouldn't have ran, it was too late.



It's not hard to imagine someone being in this situation, where 2 police cars start following them, but they're on a narrow road, and they want to find a safer place to pull over, but the cops already called for backup, and there's a lot nearby, so by the time they get to the next road a couple minutes later, there's 5+ cops chasing them, and that would be fucking scary, especially if it's a black person in a bad town, who hasn't down anything wrong, and suddenly has 5 cops chasing them. Easy to imagine them panicking and running in that situation. And after that, it's not going to end well.

Of course they noticed but...how do you stop? What is the appropriate course of action when 60 patrol cars are chasing you? Of course, running in the first place was a big mistake, but at some point, it becomes too late to just stop, because then you're going to have cops jump on your car and shoot you 150 times.

Serious question, what is the best course of action at that point if you want to stop the chase? My only thought would be to call 911 and keep going until you get instructions from a cop, on exactly what to do, second by second. Because i would be too scared and have no idea wtf to do to make sure i didn't get shot otherwise.

You stop like you would for any other police stop. You pull over to the side of the road, you turn your engine off and sit there with your hands on the steering wheel. The rules don't change when it's one car or sixty cars. Of course if you got 60 cars after you, you have fucked up.

Not to mention it was a multi-jurisdictional response. Depending on how large the agency is, you might have a car every 4 or 5 blocks or so, and it usually takes a few minutes before a vehicle arrives to back another, depending on how fast they're going.

I doubt it took 30 minutes for the second car to arrive. It might take a few minutes to find a place to stop, by which time a few others could have potentially arrived already.

Yep, and my sister drove for over 10 minutes before she pulled over because she was concerned about being more than 5 miles from town, at 4am. By the time she pulled over, there were 3 cop cars and somehow, amazingly, inexplicably, none of the officers jumped on her hood and blasted her with 148 shots.

She also probably didn't take the pursuit at speeds of over 100 mph. Even if they didn't have anything reasonable to pull them over, at over 100 mph, you're endangering everyone on the road because you "don't feel safe". Not to mention how many other traffic violations they probably committed like running red lights and blowing intersections.

Again, going back to my hypothetical, it could be he slowed down while looking for somewhere to stop, but then when a few more cops started following, he got scared and ran. Again, no matter what, this was a big mistake, but scare someone enough and that mistakes happen.

Certainly not something to be overlooked. Gung-ho and reckless to no end. Easily could have gotten himself killed and the others involved in the chase. Unless the vehicle was coming towards him, I can't see any sort of justification for that type of behavior.
