It just seems like there is no middle ground anymore. I'm sure i need some education on this, but why did he have to go right to his gun? They don't have taser guns with them at all times? A taser would put him down just as fast as that gun did, and it wouldn't kill him. I know hindsight is 20/20, but this is starting to get out of control. And this shit is happening while cops know they are underfire.
A Taser doesn't always work. There's a variety of factors that contribute to them working correctly, and the rate of failure and range of the device doesn't make them ideal for a Deadly Force incident. Sometimes, they're effective if you have lethal cover (someone standing nearby with a lethal option), however, the risks associated with such a tactic are high, depending on the situation. Looking at the video, it appears as if the deceased is attempting to force the door open while the officer is trying to keep it closed. That would disrupt the spread of the barbs on the Taser right there. Also, I can't find anything online that says the department carries them, so that option is pretty much moot if they don't have it.

And, Melena is right. We're trained to shoot to stop the threat. The threat being a perceived Deadly Force situation, and the response to that is Lethal Force unless a lower force option can control the situation. Given the dynamic nature of this incident, shooting someone in the leg is fairly impossible given the angle (subject in vehicle), and not knowing the backstop of the target when firing is always a consideration when using Lethal Force. I cringed when the cross fire started, and worried the driver and officer standing on the driver's side was hit.

Same for the dispatcher, if she doesn't trust me and I dont trust her then its just not going to work out. If my life is on the line and I am screaming for help over the radio, I want someone I can trust that will send me the required assistance.
Would that officer lose his job? You would have to report and press for that officer to be removed from post. I say that because it's what happened, reading the article it even mentioned that her personal information was access internally illegally but her fears for safety were ignored. I mean it proves the ladys point.

I just don't belive that the response she received would not be handed out to shitty cops. if it did we should be seeing better police officers no?

WATCH: Body camera captures Oklahoma cop fatally shooting man outside church wedding

officer was involved in a fatal shooting for the first time since police in Muskogee, Oklahoma began wearing body cameras, the Tulsa World reports.

In the video, Officer Chansey McMillin — who was responding to call that a man outside the Old Agency Baptist Church was telling people his ex-girlfriend “had a bullet with her name on it” — approaches 21-year-old Terence Walker and tells him he is going to pat him down for weapons.

“Just relax for me,” McMillin says as he pats Walker down. “What are you shaking for?”

At that point, Walker takes off running with McMillin in pursuit. After a few seconds, Walker bends down to pick an item he dropped and briefly turns toward McMillin with the item pointing towards him.

Officer McMillin fires six shots at Walker, striking him three times.
Some crazy scary shit right there.

Officer could be potentially reassigned to a different duty. We had issues where certain deputies and housing control tech's did not get along so they would move one or the other to a different house. Easy fix if it's just one person who doesn't get along/doesn't trust the other. Lose the trust of the whole department though, you lose your job.

What melena said.... Said officer with enough complaints from other officers would get reassigned elsewhere.

As for the dispatchers personal information getting accessed, thats a little more complicated because it was a officer from a different agency.

So far i've been on the liberal train with all these shootings. In almost all cases, IMO, there was no reason for someone to die. This, to me, looks like a training video they would show people on what not to do in a traffic stop (Don't tell cop about hidden gun, and when the cop tells you no, do it anyway
I just wanna say that in NJ having a handgun in your vehicle is like mandatory 1 year sentence if it isn't padlocked and in the trunk. There is no carry, no concealed carry, no permits, unless you are law enforcement or Very, very, very special. Getting a carry permit in NJ is nearly impossible. In a vehicle the weapon must be in a compartment that no passengers are in reach of as well as in a locked case and ammunition has to be in a separate compartment from the firearm and also out of reach.

In fact there are cases in NJ where people that were fleeing or moving from another state have been pulled over in NJ for random traffic violations and have been arrested for not abiding by NJ's firearm laws even if they weren't aware of them. NJ is one of the better states when it comes to gun control. Backround checks, letters from references, employer information and contact info, licenses and handgun permits that limit one purchase per 30 days and expire after 3 months. There's also restrictions on magazine size. I think 12 for handgun and maybe 15 for rifle.

not sure if this was posted, kinda in a hurry to get out the door otherwise i'd look back a few pages.

Police responded to his house after Vidal, who according to parents, is schizophrenic, picked up a screw driver and refused to put it down.

Mark Wilsey Sr., Kieth’s father, told reporters, two responding officers were able to calm Vidal before another officer walked into the family’s home.

It was when the third officer walked in that the 90-pound teen was stunned with a Tazer and fell to the floor.

According to Antohony Owens, a family friend, Vidal Collapsed backwards on to the floor the two officers jumped on top of the 5ft 3 100 lb Vidal to restrain him.

As Vidal’s Father tried to step in and grab the screw driver the Southport Police Officer that had instructed the other officers to use their tasers, moved between the father and the pile of people on the floor and said “We don’t have time for this” and shot Vidal Once in the chest as the other two Officers held him on the floor.

Vidal’s father then grabbed the officer as he was lining himself up for another shot.

I hate police overreach as much as the next person, and I'm admittedly biased against cops, but this seems pretty fucking hard to believe. Even cops wouldn't just straight up murder a kid right in front of his family. No one is that unbelievably stupid.

Not having one does make this a moot point, but it also tells me they are not attempting to even have a secondary, lower lethal, option for these kinds of conflicts. That also calls things into question for the people running the show. I will note that i do understand that cost comes into play in this as well. I know the police office in flint, mi (Next door to my town) is having problems just having a police force, let alone all the tools needed for them to do their jobs.

This right here makes what the cop did 100% correct (I felt it was correct before this was said, but this just helps him more).

Yabby, some agencies don't have/want tastes due to a combination of cost/training/bad pr.its an endless cycle of why didn't you use your baton instead of taser, oh my god you tased him how could you.

To go along with it if it's like where I worked the officer has to request to be taser certified. It's not mandatory.

Should stay away from thefreethoughtproject. They tend to stretch and contort the crap out of incidents to fit their anti-police agenda.

I heard about this a while ago. It's a situation similar to the Oscar Grant shooting on the BART. The officer was getting ready to cycle another hit with the Taser and instead pulled out his gun and fired. The officer in the BART shooting was convicted and spent time in prison. Likely the same here.

I understand that people question the use of tasers and when you use them as well (What was it, a few years ago we were watching guys tasering guys on the subway and other places and people were freaking out?). That said, we can't say that we shouldn't use tasers because of that. There needs to be something between a baton and gun. There needs to be something between a headache and death. I would rather have bad PR for tasering, than killing.

The thing is, tasers aren't non-lethal. They're less-lethal. Arguably they're more lethal than batons. A baton is likely to break a bone, and hurt a hell of a lot, but you have to be really trying to kill someone with a baton. With a taser, it's just random if they die or not.

Bayonne cop beat man with flashlight and lied on reports, feds say

Police said that Walsh resisted arrest and struggled with officers. In his lawsuit, Walsh said that Lillo repeatedly struck him in the face with his flashlight while he was handcuffed, causing permanent disfigurement. Walsh also said in the lawsuit that other Bayonne police officers at the scene did nothing to stop the beating.

Yeah, this is exactly right. Baton strikes are more brutal in terms of injury, but you really have to be hitting someone in order to kill them. Taser is just a dice roll. Though it's extremely rare to die from a Taser hit, it still happens.

Impending shitstorm of outrage: White girl is shot dead by 3 police officers, was said to be brandishing a knife of some sort
Kristiana Coignard, a 17-year-old girl who until recently had been a high school student in Longview, Texas, walked into the Longview Police Station at about 6:30 p.m. on Thursday evening. She picked up the courtesy phone for after-hours visitors and asked to speak to an officer. Moments later, she was dead — shot “multiple times” by police.
