I'm no MMA fighter, but any dude who has sparred as a little kid (and I'm sure has to be included in police training) should know that you use your attackers momentum against them if they're going to run straight at you. He wasn't even the one with the faulty stun gun, correct me if I'm wrong here.

But, let's rewind the tape before you even get to this point, where the story is told that the officer thought she had a gun, which is why he put hands on her in the first place. He's got this teenage girl pinned to the chairs, all half-assed, yet he doesn't cuff her and instead continues this sloppy grappling dance? She was just laying there on her own at length, the officer obviously didn't know wtf he was doing. This whole situation reeks of incompetence and poor resolve.

I would have backed up a little. I would have told the guy fighting with the girl to go elsewhere because he's obviously in an upset mood over fighting with a 17-year old. Of course he's going to 'fear for his life' if he just got punched in the face.

Most of them would actually probably just shit themselves or freeze up if presented with someone charging them with a knife and/or gun. Its easy to think it out in your head or to watch it and go "WTF", reality is another thing entirely. This won't apply to all of the objectors though...

And I kinda admire their adamant refusal to accept lethal response in any condition or situation... its peaceful, if not misguided

What you've basically said here is "lol @ Judo". Do cops not receive extensive training in hand to hand combat? The concept of using the momentum of an aggressor to defend yourself and incapacitate them (with minimal harm) is pretty damn common in a lot of martial arts. Granted, it seems like most cops these days are brought up on Krav Maga as the one and only fighting style that makes sense...

We have some good training but, most of it is a mix of Krav and Judo with weapons training thrown in there. It also depends on the agency. My agency focuses all of your hand-to-hand training around the gun. It is your most lethal piece of equipment that is dangerous to you and to your suspect. The training focuses on protecting it, and preserving it until it is needed. The majority of police training is all defensive as well, and focuses more on restraint from a perfect position, rather than practical application of dynamic.

In the end, you're taught ways that the body moves (such as joints and nerve pressure points), given the science and the physical anatomical break down of why this technique works, some practical application techniques, and mostly just told to try to do it as close to SOP as possible.

A 17 year old girl, or any female for that matter, would be extremely hard to control. My personal experience here (to all you naysayers, you can eat it) is that women are oftentimes scrappier and harder to keep in control. Generally, women are faster, more flexible, have a lot of leg strength, and are wry and just overall dangerous as in they're constantly searching for ways to move. I've been feloniously assaulted (I.e. had to go to the hospital) more times by women than men. Been stabbed three times by women, had a broken collarbone from a lapel choke by a woman, three broken fingers, and bitten more times than I can count.

TL;DR Women are fucking dangerous and should not be underestimated.

Also, I believe the first guy to contact the deceased in this scenario is a plain clothes officer and likely doesn't have cuffs.
