The San Francisco Public Defender's Office released cellphone videos Wednesday of a deputy public defender who was placed in handcuffs outside of a courtroom on Tuesday afternoon after she attempted to represent her client while a plainclothes police officer tried to question and photograph him.

Deputy Public Defender Jami Tillotson, who has worked as an attorney with the San Francisco Public Defender's Office for 18 years, was detained and handcuffed around 2 p.m. Tuesday inside the San Francisco Hall of Justice.

Since we're still on topic about it, I forgot to post Cenk's analysis of the girl with the knife video.

A.) It's easy to arm chair it when you aren't faced with the danger.
B.) I personally don't want police that retreat in the same way I don't want the government to negotiate with terrorists.
C.) I'm a little annoyed with the comment of the other officer shooting her in the back. She was reacting to a life threatening situation to protect the life of the other officer.
D.) How many people can tell the difference between someone under the influence of drugs and someone with a mental disorder in that span of time?
E.) I do feel like once he had her on the ground he probably should have stayed there until someone else arrived, but in the frame of time where she made her attack I think the two officers were justified.

Second video requires a bit of an overview for more context because the title of the video looks pretty bad and just watching it looks bad (but funny because she does freak out and spray everyone):



The officer on the lower right and corner had been pushed off his bicycle by the protesters and the lines were formed by the bicycle cops to bring in the ambulance. The group of protesters in the upper left hand corner were the aggressors and continued to block the area to prevent the ambulance from coming in. The ones in the left hand corner were pretty much just being dicks. Not to say the female officer who was spraying was right, but it does offer a bit of a reality check that she didn't just randomly spray people.

The first video reminds me of two incidents here in DC. Both times, plainclothes detectives drew out on snowballers in DuPont circle. Dunno what the deal with those were but there's some good YouTube comedy if you Google them. Both of those detectives had been suspended for that idiocy though, the one detective who had rocks thrown at him was justified in my eyes. I would have drawn out on them too for that crap.

Even the Vice article mentioned it:

Which seemingly went to print before the police gave any statements.

New Rochelle Police Deputy Commissioner Anthony Murphy said Salerno and another cop, Matt Glass, were responding to a 911 call about a group of teens — including one who pointed a gun at another — and there was no snowball fight before the officers checked out the two men.
“I think the [woman’s] comment about the snowball fight was edited in later on,” he said.

I am not sure I believe that, but it seems clear that the cops believed a gun may have been present.

For what it's worth, I don't think pointing guns at people is funny, either. Anyway, that's all I'll say about it. Just thought that should be mentioned here in the thread, since people often skim/don't read articles.

Yeah, I was referring to the title of the article and video labeled "Police draw guns after reports of a snowball fight". It causes people to knee-jerk their response because you know they'll watch the video and won't even read the article. That's just bad reporting, and Vice News is notorious for that. Only touching on the small contextual stuff that can make, or break, an opinion on a matter.

In this case, it seems some witnesses and police statements made it to the media before the official. A kid was waving a gun around in the area and someone called the cops. Without much of a description or lookout, I can see why they came at them with guns drawn. You don't know who has the gun in this instance. If it's learned after that the kid ran away prior to you getting there, then it's all fair and good. It's still acceptable for the police to draw their weapons in response to a threat like that. It doesn't trivialize the response in any way shape or form, but the threat is still very real until it's been confirmed there is no threat.

To be fair, I added some context to it. But, to bypass the reasoning and logic and going straight to "assault" is a blatant disregard for objectivity in this situation.

Looking at the facts of the incident, I can see why she was on edge. I laughed, and can see humor in this situation, because from a Law Enforcement standpoint, her "freaking out" meant she sprayed her officers as well as the idiots who failed to go away when told. I care not for anyone who was sprayed in this incident, other than the officers. That's the humor, and sorry if it was taken out of context.
