Grain of salt with that article. The only information we have is coming from the victim. Of course she is going to make it sound as terrible as possible when she makes the claims in the civil suit. When I was sued, they basically alleged that I single-handedly destroyed the world and hid the evidence. I have read countless civil suits that make incredibly wild accusations. I am not even sure why they do that other than to get past the judge and make it sound as horrible as possible.

I mean, does it matter if the incident actually happened?

Granted, I'm equally skeptical; but I imagine there's arguably some truth to an aggressive cop yelling at a black woman to take personal responsibility for herself and dragging her to jail to teach her something.

The real issue, if it's true, is why the other officers who were there did not do anything about it.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

My first thought is like at any other job, you dont' disagree with your co-workers in front of other people.

Like someone else mentioned, the story only tells the mothers side of the story.

I'd like to see the side from children services, as I don't see someone losing her kids for 4 months just because a officer says so. Hell, we can't even get child services to check on kids around here when we request them.

Also, she really called 911 over her kid stealing $10 from her own purse?

Here is a good example of why people should look at every side of a story, and not just a 15 second video clip.

    Original story: http://thefreethoughtproject.com/cop...pot-mcdonalds/

Update no one seems to be posting: http://www.leoaffairs.com/news/cop-f...-common-sense/

To teach her kid a lesson, not to actually have him arrested. Cops knew that she just wanted to scare him straight before they came out.

You really think four cops responded to an emergency 911 call in order for a mother to teach her son a lesson?

Fuck guys, cmon. Even in the slow towns, you really think emergency response is sending four people out to help teach little johnny a lesson?

Because character assassination makes victims cease to exist and how people get away with crimes.

No, there is no "other side of the story" when one of the sides in trouble refutes it by itself.

They refutes it by giving evidence (pictures!) of why the officer was not breaking the law. Is evidence not enough now?

Didn't click the link. Reading the explanation, that's some fucked up shit.

    You didn't try very hard

Source is important, which is why I had the knee-jerk reaction I did.

Man gets pulled over, beaten, and coke was planted in his car by the officer. This particular officer was the defendant in multiple complaints similar to this before. How does he still have a job? How has he not been arrested for possession and falsifying police reports?

I still desperately cling to the "bad apples" hypothesis when it comes to cops, but it's getting harder when it's becoming more common to see officers like this get protected.

Long and short of it, is too many people settle or withdraw or even fail to make an official complaint. If people let it get swept under by settling out of court or decide to not file a formal complaint, it will keep getting over looked. Want to get the bad cops out? Put the screws on them. The more that come forward, the easier it is. It sucks, I would love to see all the shit bags fired and spend time in jail, but just like any other form of change, it's going to take time.

With that said, there is also a time/place for everything. Going to use Boston as an example as it's recent, but that doesn't mean protest every thing for the sake of protesting. Protesting the killing of a guy who shot and nearly killed a cop moments earlier is not going to garner a movement any sympathy and can push the public away from you.

I feel this happens because people are too afraid of being persecuted by the cops if they continue with taking the bad ones out.

Well, for them to persecute (running names for addresses and shit) they risk doj ripping them apart. Every time you run a person's information, you have to be able to defend it. I know of at least two people in five years at the agency I worked for who got fired for unauthorized access of people's information. One was stalking an x, another was doing it for a gf who was a divorce lawyer.
