Cop freaks the fuck out and says "stop, stop now" or something and then immediately shoots the dude in the face. Guy was still buckled in. The car sped off down the road, not sure if he was escaping the gunshots or if the sudden dose of lead in his brain caused his foot to slam on the gas.
He was starting the car and getting ready to pull away which is what led to the officer shooting him. Still absolutely ridiculous though.

This is truly awful. I know I'm normally on the cops side but seriously, since when is driving away from a traffic stop a death sentence? I mean yah, dude was non aggressively resisting but seriously? Just killing him? the fuck?

The state attorney general's office says its preliminary investigation has found an off-duty state trooper fired three shots from his personal gun as three teens fled his street in a car early Sunday morning — an account that's largely consistent with what one of the teens has told NJ Advance Media.

    But not entirely consistent.

Both say the teens knocked on the trooper's Whispering Woods Lane door late at night after mistaking his home for a friend's. Both say the trooper came downstairs with a gun — the AG's office says it was his personal handgun. What the AG's office describes as a "verbal exchange through the door," teen Jesse Barkhorn, 18, describes as yelling and cursing by the trooper.

And both say that as the teens got in their car and fled, the trooper entered the street with the gun.
According to the AG's office, the trooper said he'd suspected the teens were trying to enter his home. The trooper reportedly said he entered the street to try to stop their car, and opened fire when the car didn't yield.
As per usual, manhunt for teenagers, arrested for attempted burglary. Cop let go despite shooting multiple times at a retreating vehicle.

    This.

Knocking on the door before breaking in is pretty common, it's a easy way to check if someone is home.

Teens accidentally knock on the door of an off duty NJ state cop, get yelled at, run back to their car and get shot at by said cop. They continued fleeing and there was a manhunt called out for them.
Calls to a number listed for the trooper's home have not yet been returned, and no one answered a knock on the home's door Wednesday.

Probably a good thing no one answered.

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — A local woman said she's still facing charges after a Clayton County police officer shot and killed her dog.

"He just shot the dog and stood there with no remorse, no regrets in front of her and her kids," neighbor Aijohli King told Channel 2's Amy Napier Viteri after she witnessed the shooting from her home across the street.

Claudette Terry told Viteri she was moving into a home on Pineglen Drive in May when officers stopped by to check on a man sitting in her driveway, a man Terry said was a friend.

"My son opened the door the dog ran out and kind of stood by me where the other officers were," she said. "He didn't bark, growl or anything."

Terry explained she was already speaking to two other officers when a third officer, Walter Dennard, walked up. In his incident report, Dennard said the family's 5-month-old lab-pit mix ran and lunged at him.

Witness Brandon Smarr said that's not true.

"He just took a step back and he just shot at the dog," Smarr said. "And then he started laughing afterward."
But Terry is the one facing charges for not having her dog on a leash or showing rabies paperwork.

Something happened here in Kansas actually. A cop was caught on phone video beating a suspect and threatened to arrest the bystander taking the video. When they noticed he was filming they dragged the suspect behind a squad car and started yelling "stop resisting!!" even though the suspect clearly was not and was begging for air.

But it's okay. He was black. He probably did something wrong worth crushing his pleural cavity over.

California is now the first state to ban grand juries for deciding whether or not to charge a police officer.

What are the implications of this? Is this a good thing or a bad thing? I am not familiar with how grand juries function in this capacity.

Seems like it could end up being a net positive. DAs hid behind grand juries as a mockery of justice, saying "look, I tried, and the jury didn't think there was sufficient evidence." Now it'll be far more obvious when a DA isn't doing his due diligence. When something terrible happens the outrage won't be placated by a bullshit grand jury where a DA completely fucks around, and just HAPPENS to result in no charges even though something like 95% of grand juries result in charges.

But at the same time DAs have close relationships with police and can either sweep shit under a rug and not give a fuck, or in cases where there really isn't enough evidence to bring charges leave the community feeling like noone is even trying.
Under the new rules, prosecutors must decide whether police officers should face criminal charges for killing someone in the line of duty.
It seems like a weird law to pass if it's not combined with an independent panel or something to do these cases - like they have in Wisconsin.

From the way I read it, one of two things can happen. If it's open and shut the cop is not at fault, they can submit a report that details why they came to that conclusion. They could also have to go to a judge with the evidence and the judge will decide if there is enough evidence to go to trial and if the DA does a piss poor job, it will be public record.

Also another bill was signed stating that it is perfectly legal to video tape an officer while performing their duties in a public place.

Here is a link to the article. http://www.mercurynews.com/crime-cou...n-grand-juries

I think it's more due to the fact grand juries are kept sealed unless a judge releases it. This way, nothing can really be hidden, they have to detail why in a report that's available to the public why they chose not to prosecute. And since the DA position is an elected position, they try to sweep too much shit under the rug, they run the risk of being voted out.

    Update:
Miami police try and start a smear campaign against the women who taped a police beating. This is pretty low.

This story out of Georgia is insane

Police respond to a 911 call at the wrong house, enter thru unlocked door in the kitchen and kill the owner's dog. Owner enters the kitchen and is shot in the leg. One police officer then shoots another in the hip. WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THESE CLOWNS
