I think the whole sue-happy "Hot Coffee" propaganda concept isn't the best argument to make when comparing someone who is testifying about being brutally raped by an already proven monster. Rape victims aren't necessarily treated with respect in this country, even if they are lucky to be vindicated through a rare case like this.

I understand that rape is a very touchy subject in general, but that's why there are people that will take advantage of that exact situation. Nobody wants to be the person to tell a rape victim they are lying or their story isn't believable. Seriously, who the fuck wants to tell a person that?

That's exactly what the "sue everybody" type of person is looking for, though. Jump in and make a bold claim, supported by several other credible people, and see where it goes. Is it completely terrible? Fuck yes it is. That doesn't mean it wouldn't happen.

There are definitely terrible women who would stoop to that level of desperation, but I just can't see it with this particular case. I would be more inclined to believe that a handful of women in the Cosby case could be lying, since there is no real chance for them to ever be put on trial.

It's about justice, not revenge or assigning blame by pointing a finger. While I wholeheartedly believe he raped more women than have come forward, including some who aren't counted in the trial because of evidence, the fact of the matter is we prosecute based on evidence, not "well we proved he did rape a dozen women, let's just add her name to the list because she said so".

I understand your frustration in not being able to do so, but you are intelligent enough to understand why.

That's the issue at hand, though. It is possible someone could have that intention, eye witness accounts are not always reliable, and there are a multitude of victims in this case. I think that's what made this case more difficult, but easier at the same time.

It sucks for the victims, but even if the testimony of a couple of the victims isn't taken into account during deliberations because of some hole the defense came up with they still have 10+ other incidents that they were not able to deny. That makes the victim feel like complete shit, having their testimony thrown out when they were in fact a victim, but in the end it worked out for this case (and really only applies to this case because of the multitude of victims).

It is worth noting that most of the reactions to this case I have seen, from perfectly sane and respected people, serve as a bitter reminder of the overwhelming level of bloodlust that permeates society. This bothers me so much. I can't understand why anyone advocating for these women would claim that this man should also be raped. Rape is a horrible crime that I would never wish on anyone, and even a rapist doesn't deserve to be raped.

If there's anyone that one could dare to say "deserves to be raped", I'm fairly sure it's a serial rapist.

Now not necessarily every day for the rest of his life (see: 263 year sentence), but more than a few times sure.

Tho one does have to feel a bit for a convicted rapist cop in prison, it could only be worse if he targeted handicapped children.
