I think it's a situational thing. If I'm remembering the use of force policy's I had to sign off on (yes yes i know, i think it was ridiculous as a civilian that I had to read over and sign off on polices on use of force. if I'm using force, a deputy or technician fucked up and wasn't watching my back) that deadly use of force could be used on a fleeing suspect if they were armed and the public's life was in danger by not eliminating the threat.

This has to be an open and shut thing. If cameras are mandated, no footage = no evidence, and intentional damage to a system should result in charges against that officer. It's getting kinda hard to keep falling back on the "Bad Apples" excuse when it seems like a growing population of the orchard are totally rotten on both the inside and outside.

There's probably hundreds of thousands of sworn police officers in the united states. The only ones you hear about are the fucking idiots who have no right to wear a badge and need to be drummed out and charged for the crimes they are doing. So yes, the few bad apples "excuse" (even though it's not an excuse, it's a fact when you have tens of thousands of officers every day doing their job and doing it the right way, just the right way doesn't make news) does make them all look like shit.

It's not necessarily that somehow bad cops are exploding they've been there hell a lot of these stories come from guys that been in the force for decades. But our awareness of them has increased vastly. Part of this is just technology making things easier to record things and making it harder to not at least not pretend to be semi-transparent when the whole world will see it seconds later. Part of it is just how it sells. People oddly prefer hearing about bad news than good news. People love outrage. So we get blasted with it all the time. Only really takes one guy to fuck things up for everyone
