Sounds stupid but what about the "good" apples that protect the "bad" apples. We've seen it time and time again where good cops that actually try to do the right thing get shut out and completely turned on for trying to do the right thing instead of protecting their "brothers".

Something like that. I'm not even sure if that would be considered extreme. I can't even imagine all the shit we would know if the internet and camera phones had been out 20-30 years earlier than they are today.

National Police Union / Frat was hacked. Over 18TB worth of data leaked.

The problem is, that's not happening. So while, yes, there are thousands of good officers, it shows that their system is completely rotten and allows for more and and more officers to say, "Fuck it," and do what they want. The more officers see they can get away with it, the more they will try and get away with it. This is not limited to officers, but any job. But this job can cause innocent lives to die.

If that was the case you'd be seeing even more. It's probably the same percentage it's always been, we just here more about it now with advances in the Internet and 24/7 news.

Chicago (AFP) - A Chicago police officer plans to sue the family of a black teenager he shot and killed, claiming emotional distress, US media reported Friday.
It's Yahoo so probably need another source.

    From 2014:

    http://theweek.com/speedreads/441954...ling-civilians

According to new data released by the FBI this week, violent crime rates in America continue their steady but dramatic decline, ongoing since 1994. .....But there's one type of violence that is bucking the trend: civilian deaths at the hands of police. The FBI tallied 461 felony suspects killed by police in 2013, the highest total in two decades.
The fact we hear about it more should mean police would be more careful with eyes watching. But they are learning quickly that it doesn't matter if the eyes watch, they still get to keep their jobs and sue the parents of the kid they shot.

I think you are underestimating how many cops are pants on head retarded when it comes to social media. Now also i'm assuming by what you quoted is any civilian killed by a cop. How many of those would fall under as justified (i.e. the civilian had a weapon, shot at cops, etc....)vs unjustified (unarmed, accidental, etc.)?

I'd argue that it's likely that the number of deaths by police hasn't increased as much, but our general knowledge of such deaths has.

ie. Such data being voluntarily accrued and reported in the past (and present afaik), probably not the most accurate numbers.

Considering crime has gone down, where is the logical leap that more deaths are happening must mean they are more justified.

Again, the fact that police are seeing all these incidents now and also seeing cops not getting punished means they aren't going to worry as much about doing the wrong thing. They are seeing just how easily they are protected.

Just because crime is going down as a whole really doesn't mean shit to your argument. So you are saying all 461 of those deaths in that stat are completely unjustified. Hell a crime isn't even considered violent until a weapon is shown or a physical attack is made. A cop pulling someone over for a headlight out and the guy pulling a gun and subsequently getting shot by the cop would not fall under as a violent crime. An idiot standing outside his house brandishing a gun isn't a violent crime. The wonderful thing about statistics is that you can make it support any argument you want by omitting pieces of data to fit your narrative. How do you think politicians manage to stretch the truth so much?

Do you honestly think that it's gone down or steady considering how well protected they are? Have you never paid attention at ANY job to see how coworkers will go just as far as they are allowed to not get fired? How many people at a desk job are sneaking peeks on social media whenever their boss isn't around?

If police are held accountable for unjustified deaths, then others will sure has fuck have a second thought about shooting a trigger. Police are not immune to this behavior, and to think so requires blinders to human nature.

[edit] To add, there may be holes in the statistic, but at least it's some date, which you haven't provided any.

You're still dodging the question, probably due to the fact that where you pulled that from just lists deaths by police. We can circle jerk this all night, but I really don't care to because I'm sure jesus himself could come down and say 99% of them were justified and you still wouldn't believe it.

And trying to compare a desk monkey looking at facebook versus crooked cops is just ridiculous. Yes people do stupid shit. That's just been re-affirmed by the chicago cops tampering with their dash cams, and every single one of them in my opinion should be fired and charged with destruction of police property. As is, you are starting to see a slow turn towards holding police accountable and justifying use of force. Costs are starting to come down where more and more agency's are able to afford dash/body cams and the storage required to meet DoJ requirements for retention. Rome sure as shit wasn't built in a day, why people think all these changes (which are needed by the way) will happen immediately? Especially in smaller agency's or agency's where their budgets have been ravished due to our recent recession?

So here's my answer: Politicians stretch the truth in so many fucking ways, that it's pointless to toss something out just because politicians may use it.

Clearly one is more common than the other, but the trend clearly still applies. Do you really think zero cops would have stopped doing it if they knew there would be terrible consequences? Take that k9 group incident, if they had seen past people being punished for getting their "first bite" do you think they would have continued to do it? Really?
