They were looking for him for a warrant related to a FTA on drug charges AFAIK. He decided to run and the cop chasing him shot him in the back 5-7 times. The police chief said that "A gun was found in proximity to his body"... not sure exactly what that means, and they haven't elaborated. Either way, looks like a dude that has been on the wrong side of the law for a while was summarily executed for a bad decision, and the PD is already covering the officer's tracks to save face.

So basically we're now in a Judge Dredd world where cops are now Judge, Jury, and Executioner. Sounds fun!

When has it not been that way? Technology has gotten to the point where we can see it happening now but it's always been there.

Conformity is insufficient. Compliance is not enough. The system only works with obedience.

I'll just wait for the autopsy to see if he was actually shot in the back.

Considering both sides love to bend the truth in shootings lately.

I don't even think RPD has denied that he was shot in the back at this point. We have a fairly solid PD, but needing to spin something like this is fairly new here, and I think they sort of released too much right off the bat to back down. Also, our chief of police is a black woman. Not sure if that plays into it really, but I'd imagine that there are a lot of RPD officers shaking their heads and thinking "Shit, here we go. This wasn't supposed to happen to us." (Raleigh is in the south, but NC is not very southern by many regards. Our state is known for pharmaceuticals, banking, computer software, agriculture and institutes of higher learning.)

Especially here in the Triangle it's pretty mixed from the whole southern hospitality to bunch of northerners and our politics is quite mixed even though last season, just like everywhere else, republicans took over. Everywhere is pretty good and safe and there's very little issues. Outside of Durham of course... but that's mostly just fuckers shooting each other and shooting little kids... why can't the cops fucking shoot THEM in the back. They'd have a fucking parade.

Early autopsy report shows he was shot in the chest once, left forearm, right forearm, and right shoulder.

State Trooper Gets Just 6 Months For Raping Car Accident Victim

In a shocking plea deal, an Alabama state trooper accused of raping a woman who called for help after a car accident gets only 6 months in the slammer.
An Alabama state trooper accused of raping a car accident victim and forcing her to perform oral sex was sentenced to just six months in jail.
Samuel H. McHenry II, 36, pleaded guilty on Thursday to misdemeanor sexual misconduct under a deal with prosecutors. He originally faced charges of rape and sodomy for the December 2015 incident, but those were dismissed.
Under the agreement, the ex-trooper’s state certification will be revoked and he will be required to register as a sex offender, the Associated Press reported.
McHenry will also be permitted to serve his sentence “in increments at his own discretion,” WSFA reported. The 182 days must be served within the next year.
The Alabama Attorney General’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
“Both sides have to agree to it, so in that sense there was that discussion about is this acceptable to both sides,” Mcgowin Williamson, one of the attorneys who represented McHenry, told the Associated Press.

Good to see how much they give a fuck about women and our safety. I'm sadly not even a little bit surprised at this point.

What's the typical sentence for a first time sex offender?

This one is from Washington State data:
According to a report conducted by The Washington State Institute for Public Policy, “The average length of stay in prison is 60 months for offenders convicted of sex crimes against adults, 44 months for offenders convicted of sex crimes against children, and 33 months for all other sex offenders.” Offenders who committed sex crimes against children spent LESS time in jail? How is that possible?
    https://www.instantcheckmate.com/cri...ort-sentences/

This one is national (though yes, that's 1989 and things might have changed since):
According to a 1989 survey by the Department of Justice, the median sentence in state prisons for those convicted of rape was 72 months, but the average time served was 29 months.
    http://www.nytimes.com/1993/05/02/we...ery-harsh.html

So, not very long, but longer than 6 months. It's more than just the cops getting lenient sentences for sex-based crimes, but everyone across the board. So again, not very surprised, while still quite disgusted.

All I got from that was this:
Rape an adult- 5 yrs prison
Rape a child- 3.6 yrs prison

Though, to my understanding, the child rapist will wind up dead within the first month anyways, so their prison sentence is irrelevant.

I thought they generally keep child molesters out of gen pop exactly for that reason.
