This honestly kinda rustles my jimmies because it's NYC, and bad cops. Seriously, I have no clue how people fall in love with this gentrified shithole.

I've always told my wife that simultaneous walk signs with traffic are retarded. Teacher was walking across the street with the walk sign and in a crosswalk, and gets fatally struck my a NYPD officer in a marked van. The officer is not expected to be brought up on charges despite video evidence of him starting his left turn after the teacher had begun crossing the street because "He assumed risk by entering the crosswalk."

NYC: Hive of Scum and Villainy.

Wait I thought pedestrians generally had the right of way if they're in a crosswalk? Wtf New York.

Generally speaking yeah, but cop's are given leeway by DA's

I'll be very surprised if there isn't even some protest over that shit. Pedestrians always have the right of way in a crosswalk, always. Never have I seen a pedestrian struck in a crosswalk and the driver not be at fault.

cell phone be damned, I'd have to be driving with my eyes literally closed to accidentally hit someone like that. Guy was literally in the policewoman's view the whole time

I'd understand a bit more if they're coming form the other side of the street and then, basically, the pedestrian is coming from a blind spot, or if it were a very busy intersection w/o lights, but wtf - she was the only car there, there were lights, broad daylight, guy wasn't coming from a blind spot

    fuck this lady

According to that article seems like there is some dispute over the walk sign. Crash report not indicating lawyers insisting it was up. Not really sure how they work in NYC so can't comment on the likelihood.

Not that it matters even without it pedestrians have the right away especially in crosswalks. Hell I've seen plenty of cases where people have literally jumped into the middle of traffic and the car was still found at fault. So fuck this person

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

That's one major thing I can't stand about city lights. Where I'm from in CT, the walk like turns on and all other traffic lights are red. You can't make a left with a walk sign on.

I understand with the city and having heavier traffic people want to be efficient with the lights, but I see so often people almost getting hit in these exact same scenarios.

Video evidence, according to local news reports (I haven't seen the video), shows the pedestrian had the walk sign. Additionally, there are claims that the police report excluded other key details to protect the officer. Any way you argue it, the NYPD has obfuscated and dragged their feet on this for 3 years. How many cases of civilians hitting pedestrians do you know of that aren't prosecuted within days/weeks?

What? If someone says they can run faster than you that is clearly a challenge to a race not a gun fight.

Reminds me of the distracted California cop who was using his computer while driving, swerved into the bike lane, killed a bicyclist, and no charges were brought because cops are allowed to use electronic devices while driving so that somehow means the cop wasn't negligent in hitting the bicyclist.

Bronx Woman Suing City After NYPD Officer Fatally Shoots Dog

A Bronx woman plans to sue the city after an NYPD officer shot and killed her dog.

A lawyer for Yvonne Rosado says it happened on February 13 around 5:30 a.m. at an apartment building on East 181st Street near St. Barnabas Hospital.

According to the attorney, police were responding to a domestic violence call in a neighboring apartment.

That's when Ms. Rosado opened her door to see what was happening and her pit bull, Spike, wandered out into the hallway.

This surveillance video shows one of the officers pull out a gun.

Seconds later, he shoots the dog in the head from just a few feet away.

Note: NY1 has edited the clip because of its graphic nature.

Rosado's lawyer says that Spike wasn't barking at the officers and didn't pose a threat.

The NYPD says it is reviewing the incident and the city's law department says it is reviewing the notice of claim.
What do you think? In my opinion, the officer should not have pulled the trigger unless someone was in absolute danger. The dog had its tail wagging and looked curious if anything.

On the other hand, I think it was highly irresponsible of the owner to have your pitbull just waltz into the hallway when there are officers at your door.

Pulling out a weapon when there's no threat of grievous bodily harm is irresponsible and reckless.

Didn't read the article, but if it really was a pit with out a leash coming towards officers when guns are drawn, that's on the owner. Pits can bite hard, and if the situation called for weapons drawn then they're going to put the dog down assuming it's part of the problem.

The lesson here is don't let your animals go walking in areas they shouldn't be with out supervision or a leash.

There's a video of it in the link. I feel sad for the dog knowing the situation could have probably been avoided by both parties.

It's always unfortunate, but more often than not these problems are on the owner. Just because your dog is a sweetheart with you doesn't mean it isn't a dangerous animal; all owners need to always be mindful of this, especially with the bigger breeds. In a dangerous situation we will always err on the side of caution and put down the animal versus risk an injury. It's so important that owners train their animals to heel when called, and to always be on a leash before leaving the home. If you don't do this then you're only playing roulette with your pets life.

It's an apartment complex in NY. Your pet running to the door and into the hallway is ridiculously commonplace. The dog was visually harmless and the cop blatantly overreacted like a punk bitch in that video.

    Ridiculous Police News (Specific events)

My dog never runs into the hallway without me letting it happen (which usually at like 2am when everyones asleep). I find it hard to believe that dogs running into hallways is a common endavor.
