Reading the comments hurt my brain. Frankly, I can't bring myself to judge right or wrong in this situation since the video prior to the slam is conspicuously absent.

Blog says the girl kicked at the officer before going after the other girl. Officer has been with the school district for just over a year.

Something like that was what I figured happened and why the vid started when it did. If it was just some kids talking trash, I'd imagine the cop would've moved between them to at least try and keep them apart while deescalating and not just immediately jump to body slam mode if there were no other signs of physical threat. Otherwise, the vid is inconclusive and even if you did ask kids involved, you'll have some who didn't see everything, some who might hate the girl and say she did shit, others who like and her be all "POLICE BRUTALITY!", with the truth getting lost to the in-between. By now, I'd hope they have the recording phone and if it'd been deleted from the device, well, that just leans more toward trying to make the situation worse.

Least, that's my perspective from having a batshit younger sister who wasn't shy about using violence even at that age.

I kinda feel bad for that girl and the cop. Both are victims of when keeping it real goes wrong. I did LOL @ the accents in the video because I hear it everyday.

I don't think he should have slammed her, even though she totally deserved it.

Honestly, knowing now the context of what happened prior to the cameras rolling, she pretty much got what she deserved. If you are going to kick at an officer, and then try to run past him to assault someone else, you are going to find yourself slammed to the ground and handcuffed. Even watching it, he was trying to walk her out, she kept flailing so he said fuck this, slammed her down, and handcuffed her. And so instead of leaving with some semblance of dignity, she gets escorted out in cuffs. You could see she was much more compliant after the slam.

Yeah, in all honesty, she got off lucky. When I was at the Sheriff's office, I was doing some work in the intake room, and they had someone they just brought in. Was trying to get a mugshot and he was being a complete dick and uncooperative. Few deputies came out, batons and tazers in hand, told him he had to the count of 3 and I think he legitly pissed his pants before complying. Sometimes just the threat of pain is enough to get people to settle down and listen for a few minutes.

The only problem I have with this is her age and level of cognitive development. Yes, at twelve she should be developing the beginnings of a social consciousnesses, but her brain is not entirely developed and kids that age have a lot of difficulty making choices. I have seen it countless times with the students I teach. They are book-smart, but lack any and all level of common sense. Yes, she should be able to rationalize and realize that she should be compliant, but she lacks that level of cognition. That's the reason why children are not allowed to make major decisions about their lives at that age.

Now I'm not saying she's entirely innocent, she's not. But the thing about dealing with children - especially that age - is understanding how their brains function and the level of reasoning they have which is, honestly, not much. And that's where I have a little trouble reconciling this.

I see it as a valuable lessoned learned. Half of common sense is having done something or seen something done that was at least similarly dumb and seen/felt the pain doing stupid shit inflicts. That said 12 is plenty old enough pretty sure everyone around probably thought that was a bad idea as soon as it happened. When I was a kid the fighting of the cop would've probably resulted in a ooooooooohhhhhhhhhh followed by a damn you got fucked up after.

Why, because i'm smart enough to know that if a cop tells me to stop doing something, i'm going to do it for my own well being, and if I know it's illegal let a lawyer handle that part? A lot of people seem to have forgotten about run away and live to fight another day.

I could not agree more, poor decisions made by both parties here, but one is an adult whose job is to handle situations with a cool head. If he had seriously injured her, the replies here would be different.

After watching the replay, girl was definitely the face just showing her fighting spirit. Cop tried channeling his best Big Boss Man but unfortunately used a cowards act of attacking from behind. He'll probably never make it to NXT.

My understanding is that a lot of them are about to retire in a few years and it seems like a cushy job. In the right schools, it can be. Our SRO really doesn't do a lot, just wanders around and comes when he's called for something.

I mean shit, she's almost done with middle school, if by now she still doesn't understand the consequences of not listening to an officer when he's in comply mode, then it's best she learn now and not when she's doing something actually illegal which will end up ruining her life.
