Couldnt it be implemented at the academy level so at least in 20 years cops stop killing people?

Cuz 20 years ago cops were killing people and now here we are.

Academy's are too short in my opinion already with all the crap they have to cram in, with a good chunk of the tests being one fail and you're out. Academies are typically 4-6 months. A lot of people would prefer a year, but POST has limits on the sizes (we've had to pension them the last few to allow them to be larger just due to all the agencies we ran the academy for causing them to be well over 100 people each to start), and with how understaffed some agencies are, in part due to the shit pay for some of the small to mid size ones (the dallas agency that had a few officers killed last week said the base rank they pay is 45k a year) makes it where they have to keep churning out 2-3 a year.

My academy already has recruits run through months of situational drills, and hundreds and hundreds of live fire rounds. However it's probably because we have our own range, on a private island for training.

I really doubt other academies (beside trooper ones) have that liberty.

I hope you mean drills and not rounds. Then again splurging $160-200 on 1k rounds (assuming 9mm) per recruit for drills would add up.

So take the average of a few hundred .40 rounds, and multiply it by 78 (my academy class size).

Then again my academy was paid for by the department, but a lot of these states (Florida is a prime example) have recruits that need to self sponsor their way through.

Florida is self sponsor for all recruits? That is ridiculous. I know here it's paid by the department, but if there is room, they will allow people to self sponsor so long as they meet all the other requirements, pass background, psyche, etc.

You can pick one of 30-40 "state approved" academies and self sponsor through before applying.

It might be different for sherif departments, but I found the system setup in Florida is pretty shitty when I almost did a lateral down there.

Yeah in the Bay Area the agencies pick up the dime. They just use us to run the academy as we have a firing range, training areas and an evoc course for driving

Orlando cops arrested a dude for possession of meth. Dude claimed it was not meth but flakes of glaze from a Krispy Kreme donut. Months later, state crime lab confirms that it was, in fact, donut glaze and not meth.
