I mean sure, you hear about one of these occasional "spoiled millennials" in the news once in a while... but that's with news media constantly searching for them. I'm more worried about the generation after ours (late millennials? early gen Y or whatever they're calling it now?) that's more the ones that grew up in a safe space culture, but even then i doubt it will last. kids grow up eventually, we all did stupid shit as kids, we got wiser eventually.

...except for me. i can't think of anything particularly stupid i did, myself, but that's because i'm an introvert and ridiculously cautious by nature. probably because of how clumsy i am.

Maybe it's location. We live near a very high end area (30 mile radius has codo's and houses from 600k to a few million), and when we eat out or walk around the mall, we see it fairly often.

Enjoy another regularly scheduled FBI terror lulz story: Widely Reported D.C. Metro Police “Terrorism” Arrest Involved Gift Cards, Not Violence

The FBI “terrorism” arrest of a Washington, D.C., Metro police officer making headlines all over the world on Wednesday actually involved a man who sent $245 worth of gift cards to an FBI informant he thought was his friend.

I live in orange county CA, not too far from the coto de caza area. it doesn't get much higher end than here. million+ homes are the norm there, and even the cities near it benefit indirectly. rancho santa margarita, laguna woods, laguna niguel, etc, all have ridiculously wide roads. like, RSM's roads are practically wide enough to fit two cars in per lane, lol. well paved, no potholes, all the shops look very nice and new, and i've not seen any old or dated buildings anywhere other than a preservation area hidden away by trees. nature trails, horse trails, vegetation, fountains and statues, all sorts of things like that here.

having worked in retail here quite a bit, i've seen spoiled kids aplenty...but they were that. kids. many of them were like 10 years old at most, and they were spoiled because their mothers were rich coto de caza ladies. undoubtably most of them will grow out of it. most millennials i've met, on the other hands, are pretty dirt poor. heck, my own parents are pretty darn rich, but they've refused to spend a dime more on me than they had to, even as a little kid. (i qualify as a millennial myself) had to buy my own clothes, pay my own groceries and gas, and buy whatever necessities i needed with my own money since i was like 14 and got my first job.

And yet my parents think i'm spoiled and lazy, a troublesome and unloveable son. never mind i've never done drugs, smoked, or drank alcohol, other than tasting a sip of wine just to see what it tastes like. (like tannins and gross, with a hint of rot. still good for making beef stew though.) hell, i didn't even swear as a kid. i don't party all night, i never invited shady friends to the home, i tried to obey all their rules (except them forbidding me reading books that mention magic at all... fuck that, i'm reading my harry potter books and fantasy) and speaking of which, their idea of grounding me was forbidding me from reading for a week or more, and later on video games when i was old enough to work and buy them. And yes, sometimes i was grounded over things like bringing home Bs on my report card instead of As as a kid.

Granted, ill probably give them the lazy part. though that's probably more apathy than laziness, since i tend to go at something that interests me with a razor sharp focus, whether its a game, a book, or trying to make something.

Regardless of my personal sob story though, i've rarely seen spoiled college kids here. honestly, most of them seem kind of terrifyingly productive, if anything. i'm talking study groups, med school, volunteer work, internships, full time jobs plus school, and meticulous notetaking. i'm kind of expecting the millennial generation to be a real gamechanger if anything, one that shits on the baby boomers and makes their parents achievements look pointless.

Yeah while I can't say I see it all over the place definitely seen it irl and in some of my friends from. Really though dealing with customers has really shown me it. Some people man uggg

The thing is though you can't always tell without getting to know them. Like some of my friends from high school first look and you'd think hey this person just has a rough poor life and are struggling to survive and unburdened by further knowledge you'd root for them. But if you look more into their past you'll see they grew up fairly well off and had plenty of opportunities to do better but choose not to. Then you look at their work/spending habits and have to shake your head and be like shit that's why you are struggling bitch. Now don't get me wrong I myself am not coming close to living up to my potential, make a few not so great financial decisions and try to work as little as possiblish (like try to take more days off whenever I can but make sure I got money for bills and emergencies first)... but I'm self aware about it and slowly as I mature improve on it. While others I see similarly go around doing these while doing the woe is me why am I so poor speeches all the time. Or had one recently do a big thing on how no the little things wont make a difference so don't feel guilty about spending $5 a day on coffee because that is chump change and it's the system fucking you. And I was like if $1800 a year is nothing to you can I have it along with all that money on that extra kid you decided to have knowing you couldn't afford it

Edit: should add still not a majority of even the people I know well enough to know for sure. Like maybe 5-10% for the non self aware. Self aware hard to tell since they don't tend to blab all their follows and subsequent lack of funds as much

Kinda, but he was already in with IS. In the link I posted in the Islam thread, he had fought with members of IS (rebels) to overthrow the Libyan government.

According to an affidavit filed in a federal court in Virginia, Young had traveled twice to Libya in the months after the 2011 uprising, and told officials that he fought with rebels against the government of Muammar Ghadafi.

After shooting unarmed black male, Paul O'Neal, cop complains "I'm going to be on the desk for 30 god damn days."

Body cam footage was released from the two officers in the squad car that the stolen Jaguar sped toward at the end of the chase. The footage shows the Jaguar swerving away from the squad car and toward an officer. That officer's partner then fires multiple shots at the car as it passes. The officer then chases after the car and a suspect on foot.

"At the end of the day, you do see the officers shooting into the vehicle," said Ja'Mal Green, an activist working with the O'Neal family, after watching the videos. "But Paul O'Neal was not shot then. What you do see is ... [while he was] running from the gunshots, they shot him and killed him. ... It's ridiculous. He was running away."

Confused, so kid stole a vehicle and tried to hit a police officer with it? What was the call leading up to that? How did they know it was stolen, was any one hurt from the vehicle being stolen, etc. I'll hold judgement until I know all that, because with out it you can't make an unbiased call either way.

edit: ok yeah, I see the cop maybe getting off the hook if only because the kid tried to run them over trying to evade police. Curious about blood spatter in the car to suggest whether he really was injured after exiting the vehicle, or if he was first hit while in the car and that's why he panicked and ran. Whole situation is sad when the kid fucks up, cops try to handle it peacefully, kid runs and nearly runs over an officer so they respond, and it all ends with a cop probably getting too twitchy with the finger and killing the kid. Still need the last body cam video, which I doubt they'll release since that's the most important one that needs to be examined, as well as the description they had about the stolen vehicle.

So I was talking with black guy while fixing his tv today. He asked me what I thought about BLM and the police. I was kinda taken off guard and also at work, so I said it seems they lack training.
He said they needed retraining. He was ex military, and he believed that the problem is a large majority of police were soldiers. Soldiers that were trained to kill dark people, not white people. He said even black cops are killing black kids because of previous military experiences. This was a kid interesting theory, and it made me wonder if it might be kinda true. He said nobody will ever mention this on the news because it makes the military and the police look bad. I told him I wonder how many of the officers that shoot minorities were ex military? He said probably most of them.
He said his dad was a retired cop, and he told him not to join the force because he no longer had the temperament for dealing with civilians.
