Had a interesting topic go around on Facebook today.

Why spend millions and millions on body cameras, when individuals in the community will still riot when a dash cam shows clear as day it was a by the books shooting?

Personally, body cameras will still be worth the money just to help convictions and lower complaints.

Wondering what others think though.

You can't reason with unreasonable people (ie. those rioting over a justified shooting) but that doesn't negate the benefits the cameras will bring to the system as a whole.

Their presence increases accountability and provides hard evidence for investigations of shootings, just as dash-cams for vehicles did.

While they did bring some good, they also brought a lot of bad to Oakland, which if you would actually learn about political movements, you would understand. But I guess if extortion of local merchants in Oakland, racketeering, and drug distribution is good enough for the old white boy mafia, it's good enough for the Black Panthers. As for the NBPP, I know that this one wasn't bitching about them because it would have been specified. Nobody views the NBPP seriously and they are not welcomed in the majority of protesting circles.

If this were happening in MN, the white apologists would be throwing themselves to the wolves. Actually, in a semi-related way, the head of one of the BLM movements in MN (we have 2 Minneap/St Paul) said that while he appreciates all of the white people attending their protests, he wishes there were more blacks there instead.

I'd imagine the mere visible presence of the camera would to some extent encourage both parties to behave in a manner that doesn't reflect quite as poorly on a full video of the interaction more often. Will it be often enough to be worth it? No idea but definitely some people would be less likely to do stuff if they were being recorded. Of course actually having video evidence of interactions is great too if something still does happen or is claimed to happen

cameras are good. people who riot when a black man is killed, regardless of the circumstances, are bad. I wouldn't connect the two; the Milwaukee riots are less about one single incident and more about a good deal of socioeconomicopolitical factors I couldn't begin to untangle with my limited knowledge of the situation. that is my guess anyway
