I don't think you really know what you're talking about.
I don't think you really know what you're talking about.
This is a really dumb turn in the conversation.
How are you going to deal with the fact that the average husband can physically dominate his wife and children? Or that mothers can drown their children in tubs? That knives are a more common weapon than guns in these situations? How would removing guns stop cops from shooting people swinging hammers at them? Or knives? Why do you even care about automatic weapons when the most used guns in homicides/mass shootings are semi auto's and RARELY automatic?
The best you can hope for is better enforcement and legislation in regards to background checks and gunshow loopholes.

While there is indeed some stupid going on here please don't act like someone with a gun and someone with a knife are wiling and capable of the same violence.
except forethought is the nemesis of suicides and murders. most of them are spontaneous in nature, "in the heat of the moment", and giving a person time means they're generally less likely to carry it out. (thinking of the consequences, realizing life isn't so bad, etc.)
Not everyone is opposed to smart guns but there are some reasons people don't jump on it immediately.
Also i'll go ahead and add price obviously.Joseph Steinberg writes that "biometrics take time to process and are often inaccurate – especially when a user is under duress – as is likely going to be the case in any situation in which he needs to brandish a gun.... it is not ideal to add a requirement for power to devices utilized in cases of emergency that did not need electricity previously. How many fire codes allow fire extinguishers that require a battery to operate?" Steinberg further writes that "smartguns might be hackable" or "susceptible to government tracking or jamming...Firearms must be able to be disassembled in order to be cleaned and maintained. One of the principles of information security is that someone who has physical access to a machine can undermine its security."[36] In a follow up piece published in January 2016, Steinberg noted that smartguns that utilize wireless communications to detect that the shooter is wearing a watch, bracelet, or other device may "allow criminals (and police) to identify who is carrying a weapon" undermining "one of the reasons that some states require people to carry their weapons concealed; if all civilian-carried guns are concealed criminals do not know who is carrying and who is not, so they have to fear mugging everyone, which protects the unarmed as well as the armed."[37]
According to an article on an NRA website, other concerns are that smart guns may make a firearm more likely to fail when needed for self-defense. The government can jam these weapons remotely. "Batteries go dead, temperature or moisture can harm electronics and many 'smart gun' designs, such as Armatix's iP1, require that a person wear a watch, bracelet, or other device." Smart guns may also take considerable time to be ready for firing from a "cold start."[38]
Taking control away from the individual isn't tyranny. Suicide isn't the problem, guns are. Police have Oblivion-tier ESP. The Bottle Opener doesn't exist. The number deaths caused by automatic guns since the NFA law enacted in 1938 must be huge. The current animal tag/havesting system must be terrible, here is a vague blank check for people.
Teaching people to be responsible for their own actions is ultimately pointless so we need a system to decide What's Best.

except it kinda is pointless, because people aren't rational beings who are solely influenced by their best interests. i'm not saying it's totally pointless, but taking steps to slow them down to the point where they CAN think rationally about a situation helps. making a law of counting to 30 wouldn't do jack shit, but making it difficult to pull off an instant murder which allows them time to cool down/think about their decision? yes, thats effective.
Ok so let's brainstorm out a solution that is cost effective, 95% tamper-proof, doesn't affect reliability of the firearm, doesn't affect the safety of the firearm, and doesn't distort the shape.
Well, plane tickets are pretty cheap I guess.
Establish the War Economy and an AI to run it.
Thanks
I had just pmed xno saying I was upset no one cares about metal gear references. Apparently they only care when remembered incorrectly.

The solution to guns is simple. We shift all focus and funding from the war on drugs and call it the war on guns instead.
