Not answering questions from the police because you're not required to legally isn't an option for non-whites in America. By not complying with every single thing they say you're just increasing the odds that you're going to get shot. Dancing around whether they can legally detain you or not just because you refuse to answer some questions is playing with your life. The likelihood is some cop is just gonna get fed up and shoot you.

Oh bullshit on the getting shot part. This line of thinking is half the reason there's a mess going on right now, (though i do admit there is some racism present, however i maintain it is nowhere near as prevalent as its portrayed). Anyone of any race needs to be 100% compliant with a cop or else your ass is getting put into cuffs. Know what I did the last time I got pulled over? I said short "yes, sir" "no sir" answers, said please and thank you, and made NO quick movements. The sheriff made damn sure I didn't move an inch. You start acting squirrely around a cop and they're going to get defensive. I'm as white as they come, and was in a full business suit when I got pulled over, (not exactly a suspicious or dangerous looking person), and I had to be damn careful. I've been on ride-alongs and spent time working in their departments when I was younger. The shit they deal with on a daily basis is downright spooky.

The guy like the above is dead because he put himself into a firing stance. I don't know about you, but my first reaction if I was one of those cops wouldn't be to think "oh i hate black people I'm taking him out" it's going to be "oh fuck he's going to kill me or my partner and I wont go home to my family". How many whites, mexican, asian etc people are killed to every black person, but we just don't hear about it because it doesn't generate public interest like when a black person is killed? The media as a whole is sitting there beating themselves off to all the ad revenue they're going to get every time they can post one of these stories.

For every bad cop there's a 100 others like this guy who are making a real damn difference, and pose NO undue threat to the black community.

I agree. There's other shootings where there's more clearly racism involved or a situation/shooting that should not have happened. Like the one in Tulsa recently. But this one in San Diego should not be lumped in with them. It doesn't matter that he was mentally handicapped and only had a vape in his hand. He quickly moved into a firing position pointing towards a cop. Cops are specifically trained to shoot in this situation for a reason. If they stop to think, there's a very real and highly likely chance, that they will be shot and killed.

Once again, the fact that he was mentally challenged has nothing to do with this. If you have your hand in your pockets, refuse to follow their orders, and then proceed to quickly move into a firing position, they have every right to fire.

I think that not willing to try and understand why it's also a cops duty to not get shot themselves is why a lot of people think some of the BLM protestors are being stupid

If that defense works, the precedent it sets will be beyond fucking staggering:
"I have auditory exclusion and we were so into it that I didnt hear her say no" in regards to a rape case

That defense specifically states the condition is brought on by high stress when the person is acutely focused. Basically, it is the exact reaction you would expect from anyone in a fight-or-flight situation.

Raping someone, burglarizing a house/business, running over pedestrians, stealing candy from 7-11, or anything else not related to fight or flight has no business being brought up in this discussion.

Now that we cleared that up, auditory exclusion does not rob one of their faculties. Just because she has tuned shit out does not mean she doesn't know exactly when she pulled the trigger and what was going through her mind when she did. It is more of a Red Herring than anything else. Something her defense released to the public to give them a squirrel to chase while they build their real defense.
