The grenades in particular seem rather excessive even if it wasn't completely peaceful. That's quite an escalation there

Thank you for clarifying. I agree with it when you put it that way. As for the bold part at the end. It seems like a common theme across the entire country in recent times. Evident by the pushback against body cams?
It seems like a lot of police want to be able to do their job however they can without regards to how they get it done. The end result is all that matters and they don't want anything to interfere with whatever tactics they choose to accomplish their goal.
You are not wrong there, and I find that terrifying. Police brutality is one thing; police brutality supported through the public via subterfuge and manipulation is a lot more difficult to counter. Thank god for the age of smart phones and facebook. I get more news from facebook than any major news website lately (though if it's something I truly care about, I will check on it - fake news and all)
I'm thinking I may donate to this cause. And I never donate to anything. But I can't just let this go.
For me personally the path taken by police is just as important as the end goal. I don't think when it comes to policing that the ends justify the means. I think that keeping our police forces honest through body cams and recording their actions is really important to maintain how they operate.
It find it really disconcerting what is happening at Standing Rock and I find it equally terrible how it is not receiving any mainstream media coverage in addition to the fact that the police department is lying about the events and the level of force used.
Did you ever see Fern Gully as a kid?
I feel like I did when I watched that for the first time, except imagine the fairies lost.
No surprise there, it was Tim Curry
Voiced by Morpheus too.
(Note: he was in Osmosis Jones)
Somehow people are saying police are in the wrong in this situation lol. Stabs his uncle while on "LSD" (yeah right), and goes out to the streets as a threat to others. Get's less lethaled, tased, K9d and still tries to go after police until shot with a single bullet to end it.

Not really news but a piece on the Chicago PD.
Again not news but another piece on the justice system, interviews with Holder and Obama as well.

tldr; cops shoot unarmed man with dementia because he was approaching them and wouldn't remove his hands from his pockets. no less-lethal methods of subduing the suspect were attempted. cops were called because a neighbor saw him and "thought she saw a gun in his pocket" which turned out to be... a crucifix.
yep.
the cop was probably just trying to avoid having to listen to a rambling story from an old man with dementia, totally justified
No no, it's okay they have to protect themselves first and then serve the public.
