Black, off duty cop shot by "friendly fire" when attempting to help other officers with a grand theft auto and car chase. First two officers saw an armed man approaching them, ordered him to the ground, and told him he could get back up when they realized who he was. Then a third cop shot him when he arrived at the scene because he saw an armed man approaching two other officers. The off duty cop was treated for a gunshot wound to the arm, and a shot suspect was treated for a gunshot wound to the ankle(sucks to be him).

8 months before Yanez killed Philando, he pulled over a South Korean drunk driver and ordered him out of his car at gunpoint. Yanez was under the impression that the driver was going to shoot him because of his erratic driving. Police found only a pocket knife on him.

There was also an article released that broken down how much training Yanez had during his time as an officer;

Included in that time were 46 hours devoted to using force, another 36 hours on street survival and 20 hours on shooting his gun.

But he received just two hours of de-escalation training two months before his fatal encounter with Philando Castile on July 6, 2016.
