Where is the dash cam footage from the units of Eric Foster and Kelton Hayes? Wouldn’t this clear up any inconsistencies in this story?

    Naturally, it’s paid vacation time:
Didn't jmc or someone post before about why this is, and how there needs to be 2 investigations into the matter for both legal and disciplinary action or something?

You're responding to it like it isn't obvious that the writer has a bias? We all just ignored it because... ya know...

I honestly didn't see anything "excessive" while trying to cuff him, even more so since he is a pretty big guy.

My only problem with the video is when they sat him up. Male is non responsive, so let's sit him up and leave him sitting up? That was incredibly stupid
They sat him up cause his wife was screaming that they killed him. So they tried to do a weekend at bernie's with his body.

Guess most of NYPD isn't human after all, if they need to get training in this.....

NEW YORK — The NYPD's encounters with the public will soon begin with a polite introduction and end "on a positive note" under a new "Seven Steps to Positive Community Interactions" curriculum announced Thursday by Mayor Bill de Blasio and Commissioner William J. Bratton.

The new training will roll out soon at the Police Academy and at in-service training, though no time table was laid out.

"Cops get in more trouble with their mouths than they do with any of the tools we give them — clubs, guns," Bratton said. "We injure very few people in this city making arrests . . . but we do tend to injure an awful lot of people through our language, and so the idea is to begin to formulate new language for all of our officers that might help to defuse a situation rather than escalate it."

The plan's other steps include actively listening, keeping an open mind, being patient, knowing about available agency resources, and aiming to address a person's needs.

De Blasio said the new training would help repair what he sees as a rift between the NYPD and the communities they serve — a problem he believes has been exacerbated by "the stop-and-frisk era" of the Bloomberg administration.

Good. I want my police officers to treat me like the girls at Sonic treat me.

    Never a truer statement.

So I normally don't post stories involving officers, but this is just too stupid not to share.

    http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/...it-took-him-g/

A former sergeant is suing the city of Miami for overtime wages he says he was not paid for the time it took him to get dressed for work every day.
In a federal lawsuit, Michael Weissberg said he was “required to work approximately 30 minutes off-the-clock … for activities he performed at the City of South Miami Police Department prior to Roll Call,” the Miami Heraldreported.
According to Mr. Weissberg, who resigned from the South Miami Police Department in 2013, these “activities” included getting dressed and undressed, maintaining his weapon, maintaining his patrol car, and cleaning his uniform.
“Roll call is supposed to start on time,” Mr. Weissberg said. “It took anywhere from a half hour to 45 minutes to get ready for the shift. It would be physically impossible to show up at 2 p.m. for a 2 p.m. roll call and be able to do all the steps.”
The complaint states that the former sergeant worked 5-10 extra hours per week, resulting in more than $17,000 worth of unpaid overtime.
“At this point the city is going to oppose it, obviously,” Mayor Phillip Stoddard said. “These are items that are normally considered to be something an officer does on their own time.”
The city approved a resolution last week to let City Manager Steven Alexander hire outside lawyers for its defense, the Herald reported.

The things he is claiming are requirements of the job? Sort of like requiring warehouse employees to park, clean, and plug in (they are electric) the forklifts and clean the break room before they can leave for the day? The getting dressed part needs more details, but the idea that officers should get paid for ALL of the time they are doing stuff for their job doesn't sound unreasonable.

Also, what is this BG Level thing? Did I miss something important?

Not really. Higher postcounts have a higher level, only thing higher level does is give you more storage space in BG Bucket.

Why should you get paid to dress yourself?

The things you are comparing it to, the duties of a warehouse employee, are they done at the end of the shift or after the shift is over?
Working in retail at closing I would cash out the registers in my section and bring them up to the drop box to deposit after my shift was over/store was closed. Any other clean up I tried to get done before the shift was over as well. I didn't expect to be paid for the extra 10 minutes or to get dressed and undressed.

Maybe i'm remember another case, because apparently there's been a lot, and the courts seem to agree it's bullshit. If you're required to be there and do something, you should be paid. Why would anyone think otherwise?

Its generally considered part of your compensation. You're paid x amount of dollars to show up here READY to work. If you're not showing up ready, you're getting paid less since im having to keep you around longer before you start being productive.

Except what they want done before starting work can't be done at home.

It's more than just putting on a uniform.
