84yo Asian American victim of NYPD brutality to sue city for $5 million


Kang Chun Wong, who was left a bloody mess after the violent encounter in January, claims he suffered permanent injuries as a result of the head wound caused by heavy-handed cops, according to the suit to be filed Thursday in Manhattan Supreme Court.

“His memory has deteriorated since the incident, he even admitted it is so,” said Wei Wong, the plaintiff’s son. “He’s trying to get back to normal, but just going out is difficult for him.”

Wong was returning to his apartment Jan. 27 when he was stopped by Officer Jeffrey Loo for allegedly crossing W. 96th St. at Broadway against the light.

Wong, who only speaks Cantonese and Spanish, did not understand what the cop was saying. The cop took Wong’s identification card and began walking away, prompting the octogenarian to protest.

Loo, joined by several more unidentified cops, pushed Wong up against a building wall trying to handcuff him, then knocked him to the pavement where he struck the back of his head and blacked out.

Back to the swatting for a bit, it turns out Marin County (wealthy bay area suburb) has had a few swatting calls, one which had very specific threats (bombs left in specific restrooms, sniper threat against school principal, etc).

The dangerous trend known as "swatting" has been around for years, but on Tuesday a quiet Marin County neighborhood was victimized.
Swatting involves a very specific kind of hoax crank call usually to 911 that prompts a large police response.
The Marin County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation into the two events that happened in Marin in just two weeks.
Neighborhoods don't get much more peaceful than Deer Creek Court on the edge of Fairfax in Marin County. But it was an entirely different story on Tuesday.
"Reported to be a 14-year-old juvenile; was describing his name as John, was describing that he was basically being held hostage in his house. His father had gone berserk and had shot his mother and he was actually hiding inside the house," said Sheriff's Lieutenant Doug Pittman as he explained the swatting call.
