New Difficulty and Dungeon now available
‘Twas the week before Christmas, and all through the house,
No DualShock was stirring because you didn’t know there was a new Dragon’s Crown patch out.
The players are all partying in the tavern with cheer,
Because “Holy Crap!” a new difficulty level and dungeon are here!

I’m fairly certain that’s how that poem begins, and I refuse to accept any corrections to it.

It’s been a while since Dragon’s Crown launched, but we haven’t stopped working to make it better. We added cross play, improved the game balance, and tweaked many things to make the game even more fun. You would think we were done by now, but today we have a true holiday miracle for you: another brand new feature. So knock the cobwebs off your Fighters, Elves, Wizards, and the rest, because we’re adding in a lot of new content with The Fifth Dragon’s Crown Patch.

If you’ve ever played a Vanillaware game before (Odin Sphere and Muramasa: Rebirth spring to mind), you know the brutal difficulty the games are known for. We got the impression that a lot of people didn’t feel Dragon’s Crown was hard enough on the way to level 99, so now there’s a brand new Ultimate difficulty level. After you clear the ninth layer of the Labyrinth of Chaos, you can access the new difficulty in the Temple.

So what’s it do? Well, it makes things harder, for one. But harder monsters mean players need to be better, stronger, and faster, so we’re raising the level cap from 99 to 255. You read that right, you now have 156 levels to grind out.

“But that’s a lot of grinding the same levels over and over again,” you’ll say. Well, we have you covered there, too! Once you’re on Ultimate difficulty, there will be a new dungeon unlocked, called the Tower of Mirages. It’s randomly generated and it has tens of thousands of levels. TENS. OF. THOUSANDS. I say this with all sincerity, since I know some of you are going to try to KO it: “Good luck.”

Finding it hard to give up your maxed-out Dwarf to start a new character? We fixed that too (sort of). As long as you have a save file with the Story mode cleared, you can make a new character that skips over that part and leads straight into the Talisman collection quest. Now there are no excuses for not making alts!

In addition to all that, we threw in a few other improvements for gameplay stability and various other tweaks to controls, NPCs, and character skills.

So go forth this holiday season and enjoy all the new stuff from Dragon’s Crown!

    Makes me wish my PS3 wasn't in the family room. Far too rare to get long sessions to myself. ;_;

Did they ever fix the framerate going to shit when you have more than one Sorceress is my question.

So... I haven't played any of the higher level content but I'm hearing that levels over 99 are pretty disappointing.
No extra HP, few stat gains and no extra skill points.

Anyone got any idea what the hell the point of the level cap increase is?

Quick searching around says that the damage difference between lv99 and lv255 is about a fourth increase. Doesn't seem to be there except for much more than a 'I did it' sort of thing lol.

Sorceress is so much fun, Chari. I'm glad you recommended it to me but is there any important skills I should definitely take?

Well, for Sorc there's lots of arguments as to which spells are best but my favorites are:
    1. Blizzard: screen clearing/freezes enemies, good CC... but it can be hard to see when you cast it if you're not used to it. Get it though, best spell is best.
    2. Protect: Obvious. Everyone takes less damage. Get it.
    3. Gravity: Pulls all enemies to one spot, bunched up for an easy kill and it also does damage. Also, think of it as AoE 'bind' so its good CC too. Lasts a while.
    4. Ice Trap: Stops enemies from getting to you (I don't use this anymore, but a lot of people swear by it)
    5. Thunderhead: Great boss killing skill (especially the larger bosses), its a bit too random for the mooks though.
    6. Rock Press: Good damage on bosses (but I prefer Thunderhead for that) and it hits with a pretty decent AoE and tends to stun most everything on screen
    7. Create Food: It creates food. Lots.

I listed the spells in order of importance (from my perspective.) Ice Trap got its spot because its the alternate CC option to Gravity. I probably should've listed Curse right in there too. Some people like the Gravity/Curse combo and it seems nice but I would probably only do that if running 5 spells and I pretty much never do that. I'm also not really a Curse user so I don't have much experience with it. YMMV.
I generally only tend to run 4 spells, when I do its usually: Protect, Blizzard, Gravity and Rock Press/Thunderhead (tossup depending on which of my Sorcs I'm playing)

Nice. Now I can put points into things. I've been sticking to the most super obvious ones because I wasn't sure what spells were okay or which were gimmicky.

I still haven't gotten to the multiplayer yet but I've cleared another dungeon!

Soo... I started up a new Sorc!
For everyone who got Dragon's Crown free on PS+ add me.

    PSN: HiouZetsuenshou

I have the game for PS3 and for VITA. It hardly matters anymore since I believe the game has cross-platform play. I was going to go with a support build but I've decided against it.

I'll see if I can make some time this week. I just finished my original run through with a sorc, but considering doing a different character the second time through.

Any suggestions? Though I might just be lazy and play sorc to adventure with people, since the multiplayer thing isn't available until a bit later in the game.

I'm mostly a Sorc player myself and as far as Sorcs go, the more the merrier 'cause they are all-arounders.
If you want to be death incarnate, play Amazon or Elf. Amazon's easier to get into but to be TOP DEEPS you need to learn to parry and to not get hit.

Elf on the other hand starts weak and feels complex at the start but as you build up your gear and skills you'll become an auto-pilot beast.

I'm still a fan of 4 Sorc games even though they are slower... gives you more time to appreciate the jiggle anyway.

Wait, I think I did wizard actually.

Yeah, elf felt that way for me, but I'm leaning heavily on that being my next. I was going to toss my trade in of DC at Gamestop, but I'll have the PSN one DL while I'm at work.

I'm actually not familiar with Wizard. Its probably the class I know the least 'cause not only have I not played it, I haven't looked into playing it at all.
From what I can tell though, just seems like Sorc with spell combos and without support spells.

They didn't really seem to outdamage me when I was going for MAX DEEPS on Sorc though.

So, I dunno about the rest of you slackers but I just hit Lv50 on my Sorc.
Unfortunately I hit 50 with one skill point short of the skill I wanted to upgrade at 50. D'oh. Gotta get one more level up for that last level in Deep Pockets.

Gonna be so good to be able to carry two staves without sacrificing any gear slots!

Anywho, in case anyone was wondering. I'm thinking of doing a hybrid Sorc. Kinda funny I planned on going full support but in the end I'm not going support at all (Unless you think protection is enough to call it a support build LOL)

    http://fruitriin.sakura.ne.jp/DrgnsC...53000055010723

Its gonna be hybrid endless/coin/necromancer and use two staves.

In my mind its gonna look something like this equip-wise when I'm done.

    Staves: Angelic/Heavenly Heaven
    Glasses: Heavenly
    Earrings: Twilight, Impervious
    Bracelet: Twilight, Detonating, Helical
    Amulet: Merchant's, Revenant, Fallen

Ha! I saw you on the other day, but I was working on my low-level elf to get it ready for online play. I'm enjoying it thus far.
