I agree with you that it was stupid to dumb down the game. But not that the enchanting system is good enough. It is very likely that someone would throw endless money at an item and never hit +9. There are already people who have made over a score of attempts at +9 and failed. This system is not fair because it doesn't reward the same amount of effort with the same amount of reward. It can cause huge disparities between players. It's not even a difference of someone spending a few thousand more gold than another player. Currently, I've spent over twelve more thousand gold than SPD did on his axe, and I don't have a +9 and he does. That is ridiculous.
I do agree with you that the xp did not need to be sped up. I don't think eggs should have been gone, as I, and all the good players I know would have been using the alchemy stuff anyway. It's just too good.
As far as the political system, it actually seems perfectly westernized. We start seeing exit polls pretty much as elections begin. Media starts ranking candidates pretty much from the start. By the time the West coast, Hawaii and Alaska are voting, they've pretty much called the winner. It actually seems pretty damn accurate to me.
I think the GvG political system is just a fix they threw in to make pvpers happy while they work on bringing BGs here. GvGs are broken though, and as a result, the political conquest system will be broken until it is fixed. The only time you get good GvG on JC is when guilds essentially decide not to be bitches and go out and fight legitimately. It does happen though, even on JC. That's why I'm joining Reckless, as they've gotten some pretty fucking sweet GvG action since they formed a week or so ago.
I do believe EME wants to put out a good game, and the are trying. I just don't think they know what needs to be fixed. I'm willing to let pretty much all the flaws slide, except for the asian gambling garbage. But sadly that's stuffed into every aspect of the game. I have some hope though. They introduced greater charms, which are more expensive than they should be, but at least you can just get the greater charm effect without burning a bunch of charms. If they did something similar with enchant (super expensive alkahest that guarantees an upgrade), I'd stick with the game. If they don't, I'll be gone as soon as another pretty action game like Wild Star hits beta.
Eastern cultures also think life is suffering, so their shit is obscenely brutal. There's a difference between dumbing things down and making it fun instead of grueling to play. I don't want my game dumbed down. I loved FFXI's complexity, it's hidden systems that required experimentation to learn, etc. I just don't want to feel like tearing out my hair when I play a game because the game is designed to torture you.
Maybe this will help with GvG in the plitical system:

The fuck is with mystics not dropping any balls or running more then 1 aura? My Sorc is 49 now, no mystic in any group I have ever had has fed me mana balls or even fucking put any out. They just stand there and dps their combo attack at the boss...
Even at 60 in FoK and BT I see no orbs getting dropped.
ack, wrong thread
Last boss of SA is sooo hard....fucking people...jesus.
Leveling up, I preferred Mystic, though as I do more and more FoKHM and BTHM runs, I start to prefer Priests; Mystic Auras are nice, but a Priest's heals are just so much better. And during a particularly tough fight, or more specifically a DPS race, people don't have time to go wandering, looking for balls.
Its ironic: my TERA sub ends on 8/28/12. I can't wait for GW2 to take over. So many broken promises, but that's the reality of the modern MMO.
I hate this egg hunting shit. Ruining the economy, more RNG shit. What a terrible way to keep players occupied for a week.
it;s not even a week. EME LOVESSS their scheduled events. which is stupid as fuck imo. just let it run for 2 weeks.
and ruining what economy? crystal market is retarded as shit because you can't easily farm the good ones and its a cock block to HM's unless you have tons of cash to throw at deaths and dont mind dropping a few thousand a day just to learn encounters. and even then... crystals (the good ones) are rare drops anyways
stalked bg and played ffxi for years. did the tera free trial and enjoyed it, just want to ask if its worth buying? I've seen so many complaint threads (here and official forums). Are people just bitching or is the game really heading in the wrong direction?
edit: f it, buying it, psyched myself into it
Crystals aren't hard to farm if you put in minimal effort. It's annoying because it's the one semi reliable thing you can easily farm for cash. So yeah it does fuck up my farming. And it runs through ten days I believe. Just not full time on weekdays.
What's particularly annoying about it is that the drops, specially the potions are too good not to get if you plan to do pvp tournaments and GvG vanarchy. Since your opposition will most likely have them.
This hits the head of the nail right on in my opinion, and the reason i stopped playing last week. You log in, do daily, buy your crystal's or try for a better accessories, run 3 dungeons, then log out because there nothing left to do that day. At best the weekends offer nexus, which someone mentioned about the ability to turn of effects, as of now, weekends suck, since all you do is log in, auto attack at the red dot on the mini map, and wait for your 1 frame to update and tell you everyone won the fight.
Crafting might be a stupid long time sink, and economy is crystals driven due to high break rate and farming crystals is only way to replace them, but thats at least an economy in some form, so its not really a major issue.
Return of all the content that was removed would be a second thing I would like to see. Like eggs back so you can get the cool stuff from the merged egg system ( which the merge items are still taunting me when i look at the general merchant), if i run 5x fane instances, i should have enough eggs to turn into fortune and get some glyph reset gems or rare crystals. (There excuse they removed it to prevent alchemy from being useless it bull. If they are that worried, why didnt they just remove pots from eggs and leave the rest) Also the removal of bazaars to sell stuff while your out farming for crafting items or running instances. If i need 100x items for my next synth, I should be able to bazaar up with my pet, and have people sell me there items, without me having to be at the AH camping it like some bot. It was a cool unique system of buying and selling, and was removed when the game came out.
To close, id just like to say, doing nothing but killing argons and monkeys is not what a justify as endgame. What other game has you stuck to literately 2 zones that you can traverse across in a matter of 1 or 2 min, and make that entire zone what the server is supposed to be happy playing in? I see more content and different thing walking outside my house then playing this game right now. The lead up to 60 was nice, so many zones, so many different towns with different problems, then its like, all those problems dont exist anymore. Do what ffxi did, and make those problems worth fixing, add more level 60+ stuff, force players to go back to an old area and do stuff that is a reward to endgame players. Hell add level 70 mobs that require full party to kill. Either the world needs to be bigger, or they just need to rezone some places so they have a mix of endgame and midgame mobs in all zones. Prevent zones from being 20-25only, or 40-43 only, give players a reason to go back and help that npc you skiped because the quests in the town next door were worth more to do. If all else fails, do what RO did, and just blow a zone up, say the argons or nexus mothership landed and took out 3 whole zones, and now its covered in level 62-70 mobs that you probably will need at least 2 friends to go killing in.
If i typed to much, the short version with no comments and suggestions is -- no endgame content, need more stuff to kill, quest, and grind.
Seems like quite a lot of people are reconsidering this game as a whole, so I don't know what purpose destructive comments like the one above serve. Just because MMOs -can- have long grinds doesn't mean that they absolutely must, or someone should "reconsider the genre". In this case, it isn't even the XP that's the problem; its the sharp increase in HP on the mobs that leads to the experience being a slog, and a slog is no fun, regardless of how much XP the mob eventually awards.
To each their own; I know the game's not perfect, but I'm still having fun with it. While some may not like to grind the same dungeon repeatedly to top out their gear or do dailies, I personally don't mind it. I just wish my computer was better built sometimes so that I could stay in preset 6 more often.![]()
In TERA, its just not -fun-. I second Elcura's statements on the subject; its not that the pacing is bad, or that there's too much XP to go between levels, because there isn't. The task itself, is just not fun. About 4 of my characters have just hit a progression roadblock right after SM, leveling in Cutthroat Harbor, because I'm just terribly bored with the quests and the grind. I'm tired of fighting those mobs, tired of running back and forth to the hub, the storyline there and in other areas for that level spread is horribly bland and uninspiring, and I'd rather be instance-grinding all the way to max level if I had to do something, but the instances are spread out a bit too wide for that, and once again, if I'm not on my lancer, it takes upwards of an hour to get a party through dungeon finder. God forbid I want to level with a friend and pop into a random instance on the side. We might as well minimize the game and play another up another one while we're waiting.
This is coming from a guy who was in the thick of NA XI back in 2004, so yeah, you can throw that XI statement out the goddamned window. Just because I endured 12 hour LFG times on my Drg back in the peak of SE's shitty job imbalance doesn't mean I have the patience or the time to do it again. I'm not paying any company real money to sit in an hour-long que of a game that essentially just came out. They still haven't fixed LFG times for non-tanks.
Used to be a time sink... now it's herp derp "I get 6 skills per synth instead of 2." It's fucking easy mode now and saves people a ridiculous amount of gold going through those harder stages. I thought it was fine before. Those who took the time and persevered through it would be rewarded at higher levels. I'm still personally angry with this (as if you couldn't tell already), but now anyone can take a craft to 410 in no time flat if you can find the designs @280, 330, 360, 400 (I think those are the levels).
I want a damn refund of gold!
