I am dum at science -- Random Science Questions for Shiro and not Elroy

I was reading the mining asteroids thread in GD and I asked this:

I don't know much about science, but would it be possible to bring too much stuff to earth? I mean, can earth only handle so much weight on its surface or whatever before its orbit or something else is affected?

the theory of the id, ego, and super ego is obviously used by psychoanalysts but psychologists who use a different perspective don't use that theory

you lack a sense of scale

I've never studied astroids, and what if they mined them all?

this is a slightly facetious question only because archi told me the scale of the largest asteroid (which was deemed to have no minerals of value)

that's because a psychoanalyst is not the same thing as a psychologist, nor is a psychologist the same thing as a psychiatrist

    not really

I mean, ok asteroids aside, what would happen if you found a whole new asteroid belt, or they mined a bigger planet and brought it all back to earth

the question I'm really asking is not so much about the specific scenario but moreso would there be a problem if too much weight was brought to earth, would it simply have more of a gravitational pull or something? it would just stay in place and be fine?

Howie, think about what happens to objects in space. How heavy they are makes no difference.

Howie, please queue cosmos, the universe, how the earth was made, and any NOVA with Neil Degrasee Tyson, in your netflix queue and come back to this thread after you have watched all of them.

Also, Brian Cox: Wonders of the Universe (unless that's what you meant by the universe). I think I might watch that shit again, I love it/him so much.

Howie, i think i am just confused by what you're asking so let me see if i finally got it: are you asking what would happen if earth's mass increased?

Yeah, that's what I took from the question. In that case, I would guess that gravity would increase, and may alter the orbit a bit.

    basing it on this.

If that's what he's asking, greatguardian already answered the question in that thread.

Actually, unsure of that, since I think the net force would remain the same, but the force they exert on eachother would increase.
