Won't proxys throttle your download speed anyway? Do you think PeerGuardian will be able to block the third-party from monitoring whether you are uploading/downloading?

If you're on one of the 5 major ISPs for the US (Comcast, AT&T, Cablevision, Time Warner, or Verizon) then a third party organization is going to be analyzing everything you do on the internet to see if you're pirating RIAA/MPAA files. If you do download such files, you will be warned three times and then they'll nerf your internet speed substantially. The article you posted doesn't say anything like that, neither do the sources it links to. They're just talking about some company named Mark Monitor that will go around downloading copyrighted files on p2p networks, make lists of other IPs downloading said files, and send them to ISPs. That sort of thing has already been going on for like a decade.

Sure, if you happen to have every IP they use blacklisted. They'll still see that you're in the swarm for the torrent though. That's probably all they check for anyway, who cares if it's a spoofed ip amirite?

Right, but most ISPs haven't ever done anything more than send a letter saying "hay, dont do that lol", no matter how many times it happens.

Well yeah, I was just pointing out that privacy wise, what's described in those articles is nothing new, and a far cry from "analyzing everything you do on the internet".
