welpSony has cut ties with PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale creator SuperBot Entertainment, just days after the development studio laid off a number of its staff.
All of the game's future content will be handled by Sony's internal studios.
"Sony Computer Entertainment can confirm that the working agreement with developer SuperBot Entertainment has amicably ended," a Sony representative told Kotaku. "We have had a positive working relationship with this talented studio, and wish them the best of success in their next endeavor. PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale and the title's forthcoming DLC releases will continue to be fully supported by Santa Monica Studio."
SuperBot, an independent developer started in 2009, released PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale for Vita and PlayStation 3 last fall. Two weeks ago, the company laid off a significant number of staff.
We've heard from one source that as a result of Sony's decision, SuperBot will have to shut down. We've reached out to the studio for comment and will update should we hear back.
UPDATE: In an e-mail, SuperBot's president David Yang responded to Kotaku's request for comment, saying that the company is "excited about beginning the next chapter of [their] future."
The full statement follows:
SuperBot Entertainment can confirm that the relationship with SCEA has ended on good terms. We are extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to work on with Sony on Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, and are extremely proud of the work we have done. SuperBot Entertainment will continue working on projects that reflect our passion for games and our commitment to creating award winning titles. We are very excited about beginning the next chapter of our future and invite all of our fans and supporters to follow our journey.
O_o
Wonder if this means no more DLCs after Kat and Graves.
Unfortunate, but not surprising.
That sucks to hear. I guess the game really hasn't done well
There goes my hope for a proper sequel that fleshes the game.
I just wanted true Sony characters. It'd have been like Nintendo making the original Smash bros on the Wii only using original characters from the Gamecube and up. I understand that there are often issues (petty and financial issues) that come up with licensees of certain characters, but you don't make a Playstation Smash without having classic Playstation characters. You don't make it without Spyro. You don't make it without Crash. You don't make it without Solid Snake. You don't make it without Cloud Strife or Sepiroth. You just don't.
I wanted the game to be financially successful because we all know that money can make anything happen. This game blowing up and selling a ton would have allowed, somehow, for those characters to be in the sequel. The promise of money would have opened up whatever needed to open for us to get those characters. Sadly, odds are that it won't happen.
Its just unfortunate. Unfortunate that these kinds of frustrations serve to bottleneck potential good things. This concept; this premise; this game could have been a very, very good thing. Its still good now, but not good enough.
http://www.siliconera.com/2013/02/08...ord-dlc-stage/Kat from Gravity Rush and Emmett from Starhawk aren’t the only PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale downloadable items coming in development. Superbot also created minions, super deformed PlayStation characters that taunt players by dancing on their opponent’s graves when you do a multi-kill.
These 18 minions are scheduled to come out on next week alongside the two playable characters:
- Ape Escape Professor Minion
- Buzz! Buzz Minion
- Escape Plan Lil Minion
- Fat Princess Fat Princess Ninja Minion
- God of War Colossus of Rhodes Minion
- Everybody’s Golf Suzuki Minion
- inFamous Lucy Kuo Minion
- Killzone Rico Minion
- Sly Cooper Carmelita Fox Minion
- Twisted Metal Mr Grimm Minion Minion
- Uncharted Elena Fisher Minion
- Warhawk Eucadian Soldier Minion
- Toro Kuro Minion
- Jak and Daxter Ashelin Minion
- Starhawk Logan Minion
- Fat Princess Fat Princess Pirate Minion
- God of War Polyphemus Minion
- Killzone’s Visari Minion
PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale will also get a DLC level from Heavenly Sword’s Fearless chapter. This area morphs into a futuristic WipEout track while you’re in the heat of a battle. Kat and Emmett are free. It’s unclear how much these other items will cost.
Large update is out, and DLC characters are available free for two weeks. Just need to download them off the store regardless or whether you own the game or not.
^ I know. That's why I said its no surprise to me, and shouldn't be to anyone else, that the game didn't meet their financial expectations.
I think its rude of the company's that didn't allow it because they asked for too much money. It's essentially free publicity and may ignite ppl to want a new game in a series. asking for outrageous amounts of money makes no sense to me aside just stupid greed
Activision owns Spyro so you know they are just a bunch of greedy bastards, lol.
So Kat is a lot of fun. Not the best in FFA, but manageable. 2v2 she's a beast.
Seems she's not dead yet.
