You shouldn't need a goading belt to 6-hit, and personally, I don't find 5-hitting a 482 g.axe efficient, but I don't have Phorycs gear. Also, you can swap in a Tyrant's Ring (or it's cheaper alternative Hoard Ring - same STP but you take -4 str/dex) which lets you use Pole Grip and in my case, Phasmida. Gives me a 6-hit and capped haste. If you pick up Phorcys head, you could swap +4 stp ring/6 haste belt for Bullwhip/Phos and Mars (I know you said you don't want to spend a ton of cash on this, so that's more of a "if you've already got these items" option).
Assuming I identified everything correctly, that's 30 Avatar MAB in gear and probably 10 from merits with 40 from base.
1.88/1.8 = 1.044 = 4.4% increase, so Nares are better for magic BPs.
If the BP damage on the body and hands add together instead of being multiplicative, then NQ hands are only a 1.14/1.1 = 1.036 = 3.6% increase in damage. Even with Nirvana instead of your MAB staff, Nares are still better than Auspex.
Is there a particular stp calculator you use? because I would think the extra hits from upheaval would compensate for the ~13 stp i'd lose.
let's say i only get 15 tp per hit (before STP), 13 stp would be 15 * .13 = 1.9 extra tp so i would need 1.9 extra hits to equal that same tp return.
Or am i completely wrong about stp?
EDIT: my numbers are wrong but the point remains.
Just learn to do it by hand, it's not hard.
[Base TP] * 1.[STP] = New TP.
[Desired TP]/[Base TP] = How much STP you need.
Example.
Str Magian Gaxe Base TP = 13.
1) If I WS in 21 STP (Rajas, Brutal, /Sam) then: 13.0 * 1.21 = 15.73 TP gained after a 1-hit WS *
2) 100 - 15.7 = 84.3 required for 100%TP.
3) 84.3 / 5 = 16.86 TP = 16.9TP required for 6hit. **
4) 16.9/13.0 = 1.30 = 30STP needed in TP gear for 6hit. **
For Multi-hit WS, extra hits consider STP too, so WSing in 21STP gives each extra hit 1*1.21 = 1.2 TP. On step 2 subtract that extra TP for every extra hit you plan on landing.
Eg, I will build around at least 3 hits of upheaval always landing: 100-1.2-1.2-15.7 = 81.9
3) 81.9 / 5 = 16.38 = 16.4TP
4) 16.4 / 13.0 = 1.261 = 26.1STP = 27STP needed to 6hit off 3hit-WS.
* (Always round down result, EG 16.99 = 16.9)
** (Always round up result, eg 16.11 = 16.2)
Edit: Even though upheaval is a 4hit WS, I use 3hits as it's more reliable (you only have an 81.5% chance of landing all 4 hits at acc cap).
FFXICalculator for sTP needs. Fuck redoing the math each time.
widowmaker 13.7, 16.5, 83.5, 16.7, 22STP.
22stp needed to true 6hit a widowmaker. calulated and typed in 48 seconds.
oat lance, oat 13.8, 18.0, 20, 45STP
45stp needed to 5hit oat off 3hit ws in 31stp. calulated and typed in 39 seconds.
Edit: If you know how much STP you're WSing in and the base TP/hit of the weapon (bgwiki for that) then no other weapon would take any longer.
So i just picked up my Gungnir a couple of days ago. And I'm wanting to know if it's better to use str accessories ear/ring over agi for the kill shot trials. I've read some online, but still would like current input. Everything i found via google is somewhat outdated. Please and thank you!![]()
did all my trials in abbysea with RR/VV/GH and my regular gear. i found mobs were down to ~15% by the time i had 100 tp and pretty much guaranteed to die. only prob i see is if mob hp starts to run out before you get 100tp. maybe back off on str gear if that happens. i'd also consider using strong arm instead of VV and ditching any DA gear you have; an unlucky proc on the last hit might kill the mob on you. otherwise just keep grinding
Attack shouldn't be an issue on the EP's for killshot trials, so you have str contributing to fSTR (4str ~= 1 D) and agi contributing to WSC (2AGI ~= 1D) - Anywhere you can get 2x as much str as agi, use the str.
However, it's just for killshot trials, don't drop too much gil on a agi set, just use things you already have around.
6 hit ukon set up for someone without phorycs or ebody? Working on it just havent had any luck yet.

Haven't played FFXI in several months - and wondering how far behind my MNK is currently on gear...
Relevant Gear for TP and WS...
Verethragna(90)
Postestas Bomblet / Tantra Tathlum
Tantra Crown +2 / Shura +1 augment (STR+6, WS DMG+2)
Faith/Rancor/Agasaya
Brutal/Aesir
Tantra Body +2
Tantra Hands +2 / Melee Gloves +2
Rajas/Epona
Atheling
Black Belt
Tantra Hose +2
Tantra Gaiters +2
Not sure what changes at this point with any new gear from VW, Nyzul or Legion...
TP phase changed alot gear wise.
Zerk/Impetus Down
Vere / Hagneia Stone (some ppl will argue against this but its only useful to Vere users)
Ganesha's Mask / Rancor Collar / Ghille Earring +1 / Brutal Earring
Thaumas Coat / Melee Gloves +2 / Rajas / Epona's
Atheling / Black Belt / Tantra legs +2 / Tantra Feet +2
When Zerk/Impetus Up swap head/hands to Thaumas/Nomkhampa (ideal) or Athos's hat and Athos's hands
Victory Smite gains Thaumas Hat (better than Kabuto most of time now), Myrmex Mittens, Rancorous Mantle, Prosilio Belt, Thaumas Kecks, Khepri Kecks and Kacura Leggings +1. Some of this gear may have been around before your break.
That gear info is true for trash mobs, keep that in mind, although that said hands should be AF3+2 in the top set for trash mobs.
I don't roll to an Athos version with zerk/impetus up
For anything that's 3m or less/VW, Regain/Embrava is going to negate the bonus from Hagneia so you can do either Ganesha/Potestas or Brisk/Potestas. In a Brisk/Potestas setup, you can also swap Rajas->Mars's. Melee+2 stay on. Tantra Tathlum or Mantis Eye is also another possibility, if needed. I haven't played with adding the new accuracy/attack mantle, but so far this has worked (things like Prov Watcher, 2xMad and/or Faint as well). For these mobs, MNK is tied pretty heavily to its bonus from Impetus, limiting that in any way from lack of accuracy hurts you more than gaining 3%crit from an athos set and losing 27 accuracy.
For trash mobs, you can also look at Tantra earring instead of Ghillie+1, but I don't play much with trash sets.
A page or two back someone mentioned the base power of Helices is 25. Didn't they recently boost Helix Potency whilst under Dark Arts? Was this a change in MAB or did they go ahead and increase its power as well?(There should be a bonus to Helix spells under Dark Arts as well as during Tabula Rasa, has anyone quantified the boosts to both of the bonuses separately as well as when combined?)
