Portus vs Rancor for melee, is one ever better than the other and in what situations? (Obviously ignoring the jobs that can use Mala)

Portus is generally slightly inferior, but comes with the added benefit of not increasing the damage you take by 10%.
Dumb argument because then twilight torque would be a better TP gear...
Yeah, because nothing ever, ever hits you when you're in your TP gear. There's no such thing as throat stab moves either.
If damage taken is an issue then you'd be using your hybrid PDT/DD set (which wouldn't use rancor obviously, and where twilight probably would be best). Otherwise fuck the damage taken on Rancor unless you're specifically fighting something with throat stab, but then just swap it in for that mob.
However, Portus vs Rancor depends on the job I think. I threw it in a drg spreadsheet and had portus winning for /war gungnir but idr what mob/setup I had running. For Thf Rancorous+Nefarious is best anyway, and idgaf about other melees!
the only time I removed rancor collar recently is when fighting boosses in meebles burrow and the Iron clad in abyssea altepa. Took me several fight to figure out why he was one shotting me lol. for those situations twilight torque is -15% damage taken.
Gonna' have to go with them on this one. Damage taken matters or it doesn't.
Its theoretically possible that -10% DT matters but -15% doesnt. (throat stab for instance)
It's not like we don't know what every enemy in the game currently does. Nothing is going to out-of-the blue learn a Throat Stab move and one-shot you unexpectedly.
I've already forgotten what all this was about. mdkuser mentioned ironclad specifically.
Not sure what was wrong with Proth's statement. Rancor is superior, but use Portus if damage taken matters (ex: Legion, Ironclads, etc).
Best Tizona subweapon ¿
Thanks for the input everyone!
portus is superior when you dont need the acc. period. A crit almost never does more than 2x damage, and 1% DA is more or less 2x damage and 2x TP.
My summary still stands, mid to high cratio only. Low cratio gets more from a critical hit than a double attack. I'll assume you realize that portus also has acc on it, and an extra 3 will rarely be of consequence. If your cRatio falls so low that DA starts winning again, you shouldn't be engaged to begin with.
best reso feet = dilarams?
Assuming:
1) no impetus locking
2) taru
3) all nyzul gear etc
99 spharai or 99 vere?
Is it close enough where salvage gear could turn the tide?
