why are people dodging the only real question here that matters- Are pitbulls, by and large, naturally more aggressive than other dog types?
If you say no to that, answer this question: Are certain dog types, by and large, more aggressive than others?
Tendencies of IMPROPER BREEDING AND TRAINING. That is what you seem to be lacking as far as what I'm talking about. The dog's that are dangerous are improperly bred and improperly trained. Be it for dog fighting or attacking humans. Does this have to do with the entire breed? No. This has to do with the MASS amounts of people that are using this breed of dog for their own fucked up reasons.
No it fucking doesn't... The statistics have to do with the breed. If it all had to do with the owner then we would see violent attacks from all dogs across the board. Pit bulls (and yes other breeds too) are inherently a more violent dog, fucking get over it. Can they be trained to be great dogs? Sort of, although there is ALWAYS the possibility that their instincts will take over.
Ok... so you're acknowledging that the breed is more aggressive because people continue to breed it to be aggressive because they are breeding this (originally) farm/companion dog improperly.
So vote yes. The breed has been fucked with beyond repair for the average owner. (as well as other breeds, I'm not singling pits out, they are just the topic here)
Also, keep in mind that a huge % of owned pit bulls out there were adopted or puppy-milled. Guess how they were bred.
I did, mostly because I'm not blinded by zealous subjectivism.
You are just being obtuse in order to argue your point. If someone believes the dog breed to be the "best" for a certain purpose regardless of if it is or not then they will go get said dog breed. They will then TRAIN it to be aggressive because that is what is required to make it aggressive. That doesn't mean that the dog breed is ruined. It means that a bunch of individual dogs are ruined. Big difference.
Only 0.033% of pitbulls are responsible for violent attacks on people. I wouldn't consider that statistically significant when trying to generalize about the entire breed of dog. (this is from the "statistic" page listed earlier in the thread)
Everyone's arguments are along the lines of, "You have to train/breed them right." Which is of course true, but you know what you don't have to say that for? Most other dogs. Most dogs don't require special training outside of normal attention in order to be safe for families. If you make the statement that Pit Bulls are fine if you give them special training then you are conceding the point that they are inherently more dangerous than dogs that do not require this training.
The average owner shouldn't own a dog half the damn time anyways. But again, no. If we were somehow magically able to stop all improper breeding the dog would be no different than a Lab. Case in point if you go get a Pitt from a reputable breeder, there will be no more issues than if you were to get a lab from a reputable breeder. If you get your dog from a breeder that breeds the dog to be a fighting dog the dog will be a fighter, it doesn't matter if it's a Pitt, or a damn Chihuahua. This however, does not mean that the breed itself is magically aggressive for any reason other than the way they are bred.
I never said they were straight up ruined. I said they were fucked beyond repair for the average dog owner who has not the training, intelligence, or responsibility to suppress their animal's bred-in temperament.
Oh, you mean that arbitrary range of numbers without data backing it up?
Alot of straw dogs up in here.
Again statistically speaking the MAJORITY of pitbulls by a VERY LARGE MARGIN are not violent and never attack a human being. So please keep grasping at straws and saying that the average dog owner shouldn't own them because 0.033% of them are dangerous.
Pitbulls are not inherently aggressive towards people at all and were specifically bred not to be. Without any training they will remain non-aggressive towards people, you have to go out of your way to specifically train them to be aggressive towards people.
