My dad keeps saying "stay in your car" when eventually the guy just throws his door open knocking the bike to the ground. My dad says "you're paying for this" and the guy tries to drive away, so my dad gets in front of his car to take his plate number. The guy gets out of the car, big guy, walks up to my dad and throws him to the ground and drives away. Several witnesses saw everything and got the plate number etc. Cops came and originally filed a report for criminal mischief, but my dad is also going to press assault charges. He hurt his knee when he went to the ground, but felt it was just a bruise and cut so no big deal - today he had to come home from work early cause his knee in so much pain. Being a firemen there is a lot of high steps and patient care, knee is one of the worst things to injure. The bike has roughly $1000 worth of damage from being pushed over the way it was by the dude. Hopefully collision covers it cause the car door is what made contact with the bike, and hopefully this guy gets whats coming to him for having road rage.

Soooooooooooooo, my fiance's dad is a boss and is basically giving me a 95 Harley Sportster. It's already been chopped plus about another $2k+ in various custom work. 26k miles.

All I'm doing is rebuilding the front porch...on the house he gave us...a project I already started for us. Karma for all the skanks I've had to deal with is finally paying off.

Oh, and it's my first bike. Not a bad way to start.

That's a nice deal, but I wouldn't recommend someone starting on a harley chopper.

No doubt. I know it's not ideal to start on from a riding perspective, but it's essentially a free bike. I'd been looking into getting something like a little 500cc cruiser to start on when this fell into my lap.

Taking the 2 day safety course to get my endorsement/cheaper insurance first too btw.

The adjuster came to check out the damage and it turns out there is the tiniest chip on the frame, so he totaled it. Kinda funny since the bike only fell over, so if it were to fall over in the garage it could have been totaled lol. Turns out this was a good thing, there was about 1k in plastic damage done so the insurance company gave us a few options. They could have taken the bike and given us what it was worth, or let us keep the bike and give us a smaller amount. That smaller amount turned out to be around 5 grand, which means we get to keep the bike, replace the plastic for free, and get money. They bike is still insured and ride-able, and they said we don't even need to disclose it to anyone should we sell it, which we wont. There is literally no reason to sell it since the damage is SO MINOR lol.

Court date is in a week for the dude.

I don't think my dad wanted to sue him or really go after him, so I think most of the charges are for the hit and run etc or whatever.

You'll find the handling/suspension different than the bike on the safety course, so if I were you I'd find a nearby parking lot to practise a bit befor hitting the road.

Yeah, I'm going to take it easy. The garage I'm scooping it from has a practice course in the back. Shit runs about 12 miles

Well. I'd say the guy who lost it around a curve trying to keep up might have been a tad worse. He somehow ended up only hitting pine-straw. Like 3 feet left or right and it would have been the pine trees themselves. Ended up just getting really bruised up, which was amazing given the rate of speed.

Dude in the white helmet was letting his girl wear all his gear btw. (|) strikes again.

huzzah first problems with the bike.

I got on her when I was leaving work and she wouldn't turn over when I hit the start switch like normal. I thought the starter was dead until I tried cranking the throttle a bit and she started right up. I tried it again when I got home and it seems to still be the case. Any ideas what this could be?
