I have no intentions or plans to drive 120mph, pop wheelies, or go to a track. I just want a bike that looks cool and can get me to work and back at 55mph and 55mpg.

Well, cool looking is relative to the beholder. My girlfriend dislikes the look all all "Riceburners" so she's not totally tickled about my bike despite me loving it. Many, if not all bikes, are pretty damn stylish these days and get >50mpg. If you're worried about gas mileage, then pretty much all of the higher cc bikes are off the table. I'd say 650cc is the max you'd want no matter what level your riding is at for just getting around efficiently.

I'm partial to this bike; similar styling and specs, but fuel injected and water-cooled.

The engine is a bit bigger, so the price is a bit higher. That's the Canadian site - the US price would be lower than what is listed there. The US site doesn't list the C50, only the C50T/SE for some reason.

My first street bike was a Honda cbr f4i 600. Great starter bike, although I did ride dirtbikes when younger.

I've ridden harleys and such, I hate them, absolutely hate them. They are nice to sit on but I don't like riding them. I don't go stupid fast on my current bike, gsxr 750, but sometimes I do. The bike is just a ton more fun to ride to me than a big harley-type bike. Also, most motorcycle accidents I deal with are people on cruisers. Streetbikes tend to get out of the way easier, lay down easier, or just don't kill the person as easily for some reason. Although, they have a need to go faster, and at that point its fair game.

If you go the street bike, ninja/whatever route, dont go past 600. A lot of friends and people get this idea that "Oh, I'm 6'4, I need a bigger bike than a 600." Take a look at the seat measurement, most streetbikes are within 1-3 inches of each other regardless of being a 600 or 1400. Can't stand when a friend of mine is looking for a bike and I'm like, oh get a cbr600 lors of fun "oh its too small." Its these people that end up on the pavement for being stupid and getting too big of a bike.

The engine size of a street bike determines what types of roads you are going to be taking it on. Coastal roads, suburbs, highways, interstates, city streets, rural areas... different bikes are better for different things. You don't want to ride a 1000 on city streets or suburbs. I've found a 750 to be THE PERFECT bike for me. I take it to and from work and college, which can be stop and go and/or 50-70mph, <10min rides. As well as occasional parkway travel at 80 for 20-45min. I've ridden bigger, it sucked. I've ridden smaller, it was really good but not as great as my gsxr.. Always better to go too small than too big.

Careful, a streetbike can change you. It changed me and my dad. He went from a beautiful all chromed out harley to a gsxr750 as well. Fucking guy will occasionally do 110-115 on this one stretch of road before work, and so will I. Something about the bike makes you want to go fast, but it will scare you and you'll back it down at some point. We don't do wheelies or the track though.

A major problem with street bikes is if you get into an accident at 45 the outcome won't be much different than if you were going 145. The only differences really are if you kill someone with yourself, and how fucking awesome it was of an accident. Lot of cars pull out in front of bikes, or don't know how to drive around bikes. T-bones are super common, both vs bike and vs. car.

In reality, one of the accidents I saw was probably because it was a ducati. One of my friends brought his dad's 900 over to show it off when he was out of town, and on his way out of my driveway he hit the gas and totally couldn't handle it... flew right across the street and into the ditch. It was f'ing hilarious, and terrifying.

I'd say go with a Triumph.

Tt600, bad or good starter bike?

Bad choice, not a big fan of people starting with a 4 cyl with 600cc or greater. a 2cy with 600 or below would be your best bet.
I started on a Ninja 500r, because it was more common to find one and to get parts for it when I needed them. Currently bike less these days but I would like one of the newer 250r's or Honda CBR250(hard to find but I love them) for local driving. These standards have a look of sport bikes with an upright position, which is a little more comfortable. They are also nimble and quicker than a car, but are also more forgiving than their larger counterparts. Plus if you go through progressive for insurance they create a rate based on the CC's. Loved my 500 I had back then for real riding in town and the back country twistys. Had a great powerband for the stop and go in town and was nimble as hell. When I had sold mine the pegs were ground down pretty low from hitting turns, also no chicken strips on the tires.

Check out the bikes from Cleveland Cyclewerks ( www.clevelandcyclewerks.com ) Pretty cheap bikes that look awesome. Easy to ride starter bikes the Misfit is only like 270lbs or less maybe. Great starter bikes and they look awesome imo. I'm picking up a misfit here in a few weeks probably as I love the cafe racer style bikes and it will be great for tooling around town. Also they are super easy bikes to work on, simple engines etc.
