    Plane ticket change possible?

Anyone here good with looking for cheap tickets? every time I think I've narrowed it down, I find something even cheaper, so if anyone can help, I'm looking for a ticket from LAX to either BNA or TPA on June 19th-21st, cheapest ticket for each of the 2 airports, thanks. Lowest I've found is through Yahoo travel, surprisingly. Want to see if anyone else can come up with anything better, thanks.

Edit: Old post below, new post above
Before anyone asks where I got the money from, my grandma is flying me up to see her this summer.

Well, I guess I should ask this first, but can you get a better deal booking a round trip ticket or does it just equal 2 one ways? I always have an easier time finding tickets individually than together as a package that work to desirable times/prices.

Anyways, to the main question. The best price that gets me to CA at a reasonable time (as not to waste a day because I don't get there till 9pm+) is $164. I leave Tampa at 6:35am, and get to Miami at 7:30). My plane leaves Miami at 11:25 and gets to CA at 2pm.

Now there is another option, which gets me to Miami at the same time, but leaves Miami at 8:30 and gets to CA at 11am, so I don't have to wait 4hrs and get there earlier. This flight, however is $310.

Does anyone have any experience with this? If I get to Miami and there are open seats on the 8:30 flight, would they let me change my flight time and just ride earlier?

Depends on the airline, I know some charge for changing your flight plan and other will waive it if you do it via phone and explain what happened if the prices were the same. One bad thing to note about wanting to do this change however is if something happens and your first flight gets delayed(entirely possible), your connecting flight that you changed to will have possibly left depending on how long the delay is.

Waiting in the airport can definitely suck but they have charging stations + wifi I'm pretty sure for your laptop so unless it's a major fuss I imagine you should just load up something to play on it like an emulator.

What I meant is if I try to do it when I'm already at the MIA airport. Like when I get there I'll say I didn't even notice there was an 8:30 flight and ask if it is full (and if they say no, ask if I can change).

    American airlines by the way

The likelihood of you getting an extra charge + cancellation fees increases the longer you wait. The probability is very high that you will end up paying more than what you actually paid with your plan of changing right at the airport.

If you try to do it directly at the airport you will definitely have to pay, that's why i'm saying if you want to avoid fees you should call beforehand. If the flight isn't for awhile(I assume a month) you can probably get away with it cause all the seats aren't filled, but the closer to departure time the more they will charge for the seats and not be as accomodating.

I haven't used AA personally in a long time so I couldn't answer personally on the fees.

I went to Nashville last year and slept through my alarm because I was hammered the night before. Long story short I was suuuper fucking late for my flight but I got there 3 minutes before it took off and went up to the check-in and just told the guy my story and he pushed me back to a later flight. So I guess it's probably possible, you may just have to find the right person. I think as long as you're exchanging and not completely cancelling they'll do it for you.

Last time I flew, I showed up like 5 hrs early and the people at the gate offered to let me on an earlier flight that wasn't full, but that was the same airline and same destination that they run like 4-5 times a day.

Meh... waiting at airports isn't that bad. Bring a book or something.

In my experience it just entirely depends on luck. If you get a nice guy on a good day and the airline has an earlier flight going your way that has seats free then yeah it's entirely possible they'll get you on that if you ask nicely, never hurts to ask. However, no matter how nice you are to them if it's summer time/other prime holiday season/you're flying at what I like to call the "business flights" (you know, the ones full of suited folks off to conferences and on work trips, usually around 8am/after 5pm during the week) then your odds go down to pretty much nil. Considering that the 8:30 flight is instantly double the price I'd wager a guess it's a business flight full of folks willing to pay that double price and the airline has no incentive to let you free ride it. You might be able to get on it for an additional fee though. All I can suggest is just go on charm offensive and be as nice as possible to the guy/gal behind the desk and take your chances. It's not like you're going to lose anything by asking.

You have to be approved to get that, which requires a credit check. By reading your posts, I highly doubt you would be approved (no offense).

This, turn up early and ask nicely. If they tell you to gtfo, then make sure you brought something to read.

I've also had good luck in the past by booking the tickets just a few hours before the flights due to take off and saving a huge amount. I've also been burned doing that too and wound up having to travel a day later then planned or having to pay more then I wanted to.

If you have no status with AA, you will need to pay $100ish to fly standby, on an earlier flight, even more expensive if you want a confirmed seat. You're probably flying on a super cheap fare, so there's no way you would get it for free.

And based on your post history, there's no way you would ever be approved for an AA/Citi credit card.

I came back to read the thread again while not high: I've flown a fuckton all across the US. I also did near full time booking of flights while I was administrative assistant for service techs, so I had to research that shit all day long sometimes. I actually kinda liked it tho.

Not sure if anyone posted this but the reason that flight is more is because it is more convenient (obviously) and the cheaper one because the layover is undesirable enough to make people pay a bit extra to get on that first flight.

That all being said: If they are unfilled for the first flight (unlikely) there is a chance they may bump you up if you just ask the people working there. Generally though, they won't without paying off the rest. Ever.

There are some other options though, but if you don't mind me asking: What days are you traveling and from where to where? Also, does it have to with a specific airline or not?

Well was basically going off of price so looks like I'm stuck with it. Idc which airline really but I already got the ticket (for there, haven't been able to find a good return ticket yet).

Going to LAX from Tampa international on June 5th and trying to come back on the 19th-21st.

The June 5th ticket is already bought

Gotcha, well I'd say try Southwest for the return. And then Virgin America, too. Though I think they only fly into Orlando from LAX. Those are the two cheapest I'm seeing, 19th and 20th, respectively.

hmm I couldn't get competitive rates with southwest at all (which is strange because a few years ago, that'd be the only airline I'd fly with)
