Jesus, regarding homosexuality:
Jesus, regarding homosexuality:
Aren't God and Jesus one in the same? Jesus' word wouldn't overwrite the eternal word of God, would it? He never contradicted his father, did he?
I just hope he doesnt win his reelection now, since he went back on his word.
it's interesting but not an especially salient issue, the race will still be dominated and decided by the economy. most of the voters he alienates with this are already firmly aligned against him and the black vote isn't going to the Republicans.
The religious black vote won't go anywhere, but that's the problem. There are quite a few swing states that may swing the other way simply because religious blacks may simply choose to vote at all. On one side, you have a non-christian, and on the other, you have a "false" christian. Both are equally bad in the eyes of religious zealots.
Off topic but did anyone else notice all the anti gay bots or sock puppets show up the second clob got banned?
If I had to point out one thing that basically set me apart from Christianity it'd be the slavery issue and how long it was allowed to exist because the Bible gave the thumbs up on owning, selling and trading human beings. Opponents will throw out the Old Testament excuses but really it is irrelevant because no all-powerful, omnibenevolent being would allow such a detestable process to exist and such a decree is clearly the thought of bronze age humans.
Besides, I'd have to consider stoning my father to death for working on the sabbath to keep his family afloat.
In many of the cases with blacks much of the anti-gay agenda goes back to old ignorance and the oppressors hatreds manifesting generations later. When you get told something enough times under duress and the only place of relative solace is vehemently against homosexuality coupled with previous beliefs being effectively erased is it any surprise when blacks sound much like their white, Christian peers?
Let's not even get into the subject of Biblical literacy. How many Christians can even state they've read the entire Bible cover to cover? It's a real embarrassment when Atheists wipe the floor with typical believers on simple biblical knowledge.
Personally I don't care if this costs Obama the election (I think he'll lose because of the economy anyway) because he's already done his part for history as the first minority president and they can't take that away from him. I simply choose Obama in '12 because Romney has presented his case and I'm no fan of walking a path to theocracy.
Black people are going to break an election vote over something marriage related? ....really?
I think it'll be a cold day in hell before black people vote for Mitt Romney en-mass, which means Obama is playing his cards right. The black vote is essentially irrelevant this election season, because:
1) Metropolitan districts are going to go for Obama already.
2) They aren't going to vote for Mitt Romney
3) The worst they can do is have slightly lower turnouts in districts that Obama is going to win anyway.
This announcement is likely incredibly calculated and probably pretty smart. By putting the focus of the election on gay marriage, which homophobic religious nuts that never would have voted for Obama anyway won't shut up about, he takes the focus off the economy and other issues where he might have taken some real criticism that could have helped Mitt Romney steal some moderates.
If this election season is the first step towards pushing the religious right out of politics by majority vote, I'm all for it.
Obama kills bin Laden and intolerance in one term. What a guy.
