Trying to remember as much as possible...

Venues were about $1000 total. DJ was about $700. Photographer was $500 (we're pretty close with them). Her dress was $800 I think. It was outside, so we had to rent chairs, I think that was about $200. Food was free, her parents catered. I forgot how much the cake was, but it couldn't have been more than a couple hundred. Random decorations and shit was probably a few hundred. The guy that married us was a friend, I paid him a hundred I think. Probably some other misc shit I'm not recalling. Oh, booze. A relative manages an alcohol distributor. Got everything at distributor cost.

What's the median boost to the economy per divorce is what I want to know. More marriages means the economy can double dip in lawyer and private investigator incomes when half of them fail.

Almost everything about a wedding that isn't provided for by a close friend or family member is a fucking ripoff. Strip 'wedding' from the occupation and the prices drop in half.

I believe changing your stance on issues comes across as a weakness politically because it demonstrates that you're not fully committed to a particular position and/or can be ("easily") influenced by others. People like to believe that those they vote for will always reflect their common ideals regardless of the opposition faced, and it's risky to have a representative that can potentially be swayed a different way on particular issues.

While I agree that it takes a lot of guts to stand up and admit being wrong, people are also sheep and if you give your opponents that one inch or sound bite, it'll only be a matter of time before they are able to craft it into a mile-long lever that causes people to doubt your credibility in other areas as well and it hurts you politically overall. Better to be ambiguous or just change the subject and wait to put your mea culpas in your best-selling memoirs after you leave political office so that you can at least profit a little from it.

I laughed at the assertion that a man who likely always believed in the rights of gays to marry somehow evolved his ideology because today he supports it. It is admirable for someone to say that, but that's not what happened.

Jesus. My ~50 guest wedding cost just under 10k, though the cake/venue was free. If it were up to me, I would've just gone to the courthouse; I didn't enjoy being in a wedding any more than I enjoy going to them.

What the heck are all y'alls bloody expensive rings made out of? We bought plain white gold ring bands and I want to say it might have cost $500ish tops. I sure didn't want some gaudy thing on my finger.

Damn, I just realized how off-topic this was.

I think we're including engagement rings in the "plus rings" cost.

We haven't bought our wedding bands yet.

If i could do it all over again (seems to be a recurring theme here, take tips engaged guys), I'd go to the court house and take the money saved and throw it into the honeymoon. Wedding is one day that's 60%+ stress and 40% enjoyable. Honeymoon is 100% awesome and lasts several days.

my band is standard non-fancy white gold. her's has diamonds and shit on it and ended up being the same cost as the engagement ring (~$2k with a crazy deal since we know the jeweler). normal retail we would have spent close to $9k on just rings...

Oh, yeah that would push me easily over the 10k total mark then too. Probably cost me ~3k for that alone.

Didn't read the whole thread, so maybe it's been asked/answered but... do you buy two engagement rings in a gay marriage? Maybe just one, to the one being asked? I'm sure the answer is "it's entirely up to the couple". I'm just curious if there was some sort of standard.

From what I've seen, gay couples go for bands instead of engagement rings. They cost more cause they adorn them more then the average gold abnd, but no where near the price of an engagement ring.

In my case, wedding day was pure hell. I had to constantly refrain myself from killing somebody in my or her family. But the honeymoon was great.

Unfortunately, these are things most women only realize after the fact. Until then, they all want their giant shiney diamonds and awesome (read: expensive) weddings, even if it takes a bit from the honeymoon.

Unless its a second marriage, but fuck that used shit. New car smell onry.

My band cost, I think, $90. Tasha's engagement ring was around $2400 iirc. I bought that when I was in high school, we were engaged for 7ish years. We splurged a bit on the wedding band since we didn't go all out on the engagement ring. Had it custom made. I think it has 6 diamonds...

When I got engaged, spent about 1500 on my wife's engagement ring. Got a great deal at Shane Co on it. For the actual wedding band's, I got a 50 dollar tungsten ring since I work i a jail and it's scratch resistant, and the wife got a 150 dollar ring over at JC Penny's. Also if your hell bent on a wedding but don't care if you keep it small, look at outdoor places that are not golf courses. We got married up at Lake Tahoe and I think we spent only a few hundred for the spot, took about 20 minutes. Of course my dumb ass forgot to go to the bathroom before we left so during the whole ceremony i'm doing the pee dance. The suite at our lodge, wedding cake, and reception dinner was easily 2/3 of our cost and we were at about 5-6k for 20 people. Thankfully my dad picked up the tab on the dinner.

We rented a state park and had an outside wedding. It was gorgeous. Don't know if they're available to rent out everywhere, but it set us back just a few hundred. We rented a museum for the reception, it was a bit more costly, but not much.
