That's what they should've done to begin with. Make mission objectives that would adjust to w/e class you play and push what the class can do teaching you the job. Instead though, they came up with one way of doing it and we end up with this stupid parley.

And this is what sucks. There's a shitload of potential, but SE still seems to want to bother. Other company recruits could help with company missions, companions for misc. quests, and so on. What's the point of even having a companion if I can't do jack shit with them? Though that's not saying much since their AI was pretty bad last I recalled.

Yeah that the companion was terrible, I hope the chocobo companion will be nothing like that. All that crap was remnant from the old team and I dont think the new team has any intention of fixing that shit. Seems they just gonna scrap that shit.

Not disagreeing on the sentiments overall, but I actually find Parley semi-amusing.

It had potential, if only they had put more work into giving it depth as far as strategy goes (given the "failed ability" messages it's clear there was more planned for it but, like so much else, got scrapped).

I wouldn't mind parley except for two things:

    a) It's absolutely fucking agonizingly slow. When you eliminate any tiles, they should all shift and new ones appear all within a second or two. The amount of time it takes for tiles to shift and the next turn to begin is completely unacceptable.

    b) It's used for just about every single fucking thing for DoL/DoH. With how painfully slow it already is, anyone with a few DoL/DoHs at 50 is probably completely burnt out on it and would be happy if they never saw it again.

That's obviously a huge annoyance with the game but it's just a superficial one.

The main problem is it being almost entirely luck based, the only things to consider at any given time are what gives the most points and will that choice combine tiles that could be used in your opponent's next turn.

Sad, but true. Seems like they're trying to make everything a huge time sink like XI was back in the day.

Urgh don't even get me started on that cesspool of stupidity. I wanted to cause myself physical harm last night after reading people bitching about those that manaburned Gardua should be banned or have their weapons removed.

Community (compared to xi) is one of the worst issues I noticed when I used to play. Some of the "better" ls are very clicky, elitist (makes no sense to feel elite over the horrid content that exists but whatever), irritating, and not many people were willing to help others clear content they had already cleared. Still sounds like more of the same these days. This game isn't fun/good enough to deal with asshats the majority of the time you're logged in.
I guess the best choice is to wait for 2.0 and see how that goes, but at this point I don't expect to want to play it when it does come out either.

This is exactly why I think this "WB campaign" is so stupid, the timing is just so ridiculously bad and here's why:

    1. People have come back and noticed all their friends have gone poof or the entire LS they were in has died off.

    2. Can't get groups for content, end up sitting in Uldah all day looking for the correct shouts.

    3. Having to beg for help to get some of the job AF parts because they can't be soloed - This is what i'm talking about, fucking up something that should be simple and accessible without needing a party to do it. I'm sure its fine when it is new and everyone is doing it but as time passes, good luck finding help for it. This was a huge problem all throughout XI as well.

I guess the only cool thing about it is to get the goobbue mount and play around but as far as subs are concerned, I ask this, anyone who came back, was it enough convincing for you to sub? Did you see enough change? or are you still on the fence and waiting to see what comes out of E3 about 2.0?

The timing was poor, I agree. What, exactly, were they wanting to show off? If it was just a matter of wanting returning players to see current players rolling around in AF, they could have waited until after the E3 showing, and use the welcome back campaign as a sort of "look how far we've come, and 2.0 is only a month away~!!" kinda thing.

I don't get it. I guess it really is all about the Goobbue mount, but if those people never come back anyway, then even that is pointless.

Tempting new (old) people to subscribe for 3 months so they can get the legacy price was the point I assume. Looking at a general gaming forum I visit it seems to have grabbed a lot more people than I thought it would have, I've seen dozens of people post that they haven't played since the beta but with news of this legacy campaign they've already put down 3 months subscription to get in.

Pitching the legacy pricing plan was exactly the reason for throwing this little campaign of theirs. Unfortunately SE once again failed the recognize all the parts of the problem.

OK so random joe shmoe comes back to the game and all his friends are gone. Perhaps they quit, merged with another guild, or completely left the server. Well he's got no friends in any case. If they had allowed server transfers with the resub, they might have given lost players some new options, but nah, that was probably never a consideration. Any other mmo that would do something like a welcome back would have given free server transfer, but not SE. Not in a million years would it even cross their minds. Tons of people flocked to different servers than the proposed merge and it should have been recognized.

As a player who left with only one job 50 , i find it kind of unacceptable for *se or the player base* to just expect people to have every job r50. Ive come back and was able to do DH , got close to my first ifrit win. manage to get 4/5 AF but to get my legs i had to shout and pay 100k before people would bother helping. I had no idea about the new combo system when coming back since i cant for the life of me find a wiki with even 1/2 the info / answers i have for things.Ill give the combo system some respect its fun ... when you get the mob and the lag and the exact standing locations etc right. Ive been playing monk since i came back and its been the same story as before it left and its old school ffxi , lolmonk go level *insert blm whm all other 2 hand dps jobs* not to mention as much fin as the firsts of fire wind and earth are... its insanely hard to keep mp for them solo and even more so in a battle like ifrit.I did like that unlocking and playing monk did not set me to level 1. If there is 2 changes that i haven't seen brought up its that they fix there net code.

What i mean is FFXI : your internet could be powered by a hampster in wheel and controlled by fox news. and you can still play and enjoy the game

FFXIV: you dont have a fiber cable hooked into your pc GL loading jackshit * one ifrit run i wasnt even able to target the pillars because they never loaded*

And they really need to either speed up how the game loads or runs or something because if i can run BF3 on med settings but cant even load npc's in uldah on lowest settings with everything turned off something is wrong.

those are just my gripes, oh and the timers on dungeons shouldn't be running during the CS's , sure i know its not important but i paid for the damn game id like to at least see the shit before " hurry up ans skip this the clock is running". its COP all over again i have 0 idea whats happened with 1/2 the story because most groups rush you.

Again, i feel the whole mindset of players "helping" other players has to go.
I dont mean that everyone out there is a greedy douche, but I find it very poor that they can't design content to offer different rewards.

Make that when you help someone for his AF quest, you gain Seals. Or that those quests NMs can drop some useful material.
In the past, I had some very kind players spending an hour or so to boost me in Totorak but... is that really the best idea they can come up with? Kind players with a lot of time by their hands to solve all content loose ends?

It's 2012, and the Massive Multiplayer genre needs to drop its original issues.
Players should stop being mad at other players for being there, and content shouldn't be something you experience out of other players' kindness.

That stuff won't be changing until 2.0, because there's just nothing realistic and viable they can do with current engine, server-code and such. We can only hope the new stuff they'll release is a totally different story.

Although, you're either exaggerating or something is wrong on your side, because I have a 5 year old PC (which would probably run BF3 like shit, never tried) and I'm playing on mid settings and while stuff still has some loading problems (again, basically everyone will have them and there's no helping it and no use complaining right now) it's just a couple seconds delay.

No, for mostly the reasons that have already been stated. It's just too hard to get any old content done. I was a few days late to 1.21 (or whatever patch it was that had jobs) and people were already complaining about how much harder it was to get AF parties. I was still able to get 1 job done within about a day or two. But after that first week it was pretty much painful.

For people who quit shortly after launch, I think it would be undeniable that the game has dramatically improved. Sorry, just calling BS on anyone in this thread who have said it hasn't gotten any better. When this game came out you had to skill up classes, there was no search system for retainers, leves were pretty much all you could do, could go on and on.

But if you come back now, likely on a different server from your friends, unable to do any content because PUGs are few and far between for content older than one week... going to be disappointing.

Side note, I was shocked by that pre-Garuda Magitek mission - I think that's the first "storyline" quest that hasn't been soloable (or maybe I just have the wrong jobs/am gimp idk). They seem to have been making the primal pre-reqs more and more exclusionary. Ifrit wasn't too bad. But who is actually going to go back and help someone kill the Moogle pre-req NMs now? Now they're not even letting you solo your way up to the quest itself.

I'll throw this out there since there seems to be people having problems getting stuff done. If you're on Durandal, message me in game at Fitzy Witzsimons. It's a shame to see what little community there is be so resistant to grow the userbase by helping returning players. If you need any explanation of a system you can PM or if you need stuff done, feel free to contact me in game or PM so I can arrange to help you. The Stats and how they work page in general is a good place to go if you're looking for the usual mathy stuff from Kaeko, Seiken, Stanislaw and a few others. I've helped a few people from these forums with Ifrits/AF and what-not, so please don't hesitate to ask. We aren't an elite shell by any means, but we'll do what we can to help you get your quests done.

Wanted to check this out. I actually have a couple friends that have stuck through this since release that have been asking me to come back. Have to admit the timing is terrible with me pretty deep into TERA right now and D3 out tomorrow.

However I did log back into the game (mainly for the goobbue) and I found most peoples sentiments in this thread to be true. Community is really closed off right now and clicky. People seem almost bitter and no one is available to help with shit. And this is coming from someone who fell right into an active ls.

Having said that, maybe SE isn't so stupid after all since after logging out the other night I actually subbed just to lock in the legacy pricing. Method to the madness I suppose. Wasn't enough to keep my actively playing but I'll see what's up in November.
