What kind of passwords are people using on their battlenet accounts, something easily figured out by a cracking program or what?
What kind of passwords are people using on their battlenet accounts, something easily figured out by a cracking program or what?
Edit: Yikes wrong thread!
Password I was using was not easily cracked.....
Really hate to say it's because of public games....but in 10+ years of online/MMOs I've never been hacked like this. Got an authenticator finally and we'll see what Blizzard says tomm. But seriously what a pain in the ass.....there's a security leak somewhere...
Happened to me today too. I was chilling at the character select screen, when I got error 60(?) which kicked me out (someone logging in from another machine). I logged right back in to see all my items and gold gone, then kicked again, then they changed my password. This all happened in about 2 mins.
I haven't heard back from blizzard yet. So annoying. And since I'm in Japan I can't use an authenticator. I guess there's an online version of one I'll try.
Well, at least I figured out what happened to me. I got phished. I got a very convincing looking e-mail that said my account was locked and I needed to reset my password. I tried to log into my account at the time to verify it, but I couldn't (typed pw wrong or something). So I followed the e-mail and 2 days later got compromised. Oh well, blizzard rolled back my account for me.
Because it so happened that at the time I tried to log in to verify my account was locked, I couldn't. Thought it was legit after that. Coupled with the e-mail going on about your "account habits" have changed, which also coinsided with me watching a bunch of cinematics and generally lol'ing about the account interface so on some level it was believable to me.
I didn't play WoW. I had zero idea that if it's really blizzard, they don't send those kinds of links in their e-mails like every other company I've dealt with does.
At the end of the day, nothing was lost to me other than 1 day I couldn't play. I feel better knowing it was my mistake that caused it and not something like joining a public game or the AH or just not knowing wtf can't find some maleware on my computer.
I applaud you good sir for having the balls of being upfront about your case. Everyone else is like OMFG HACKED Y0; but no details whatsoever. Hell at this point I'd believe blizzard is doing it to drive authenticator sales up.
Well it will be interesting if I get hacked, I use noscript everywhere, don't even open emails from "blizzard" or anything, don't visit anywhere but here and official d3 site in regards to the game, and have never done a public game. (Also I don't even have a char past NM and I'm broke to boot, who would want to hack me? XD)
All these people who are getting hacked can't be getting compromised the exact same way, so I'm also of the opinion that there's a security problem related to the actual game somewhere. It's just too prevalent for it to be the result of one scam or another. It does scare me though![]()
Any time anyone receives an official-looking e-mail and is considering taking action, he should be taking half a second hover over the link and see where it is really going.
Says anything at all other than battle.net? It's fake. Pretty simple.
Shouldn't ever follow links in emails anyway.
Just go directly to the battle.net site and start there.
I'm not even trying to save face. If I knew I did something to fuck up, I probably wouldn't have even posted in here. Still not sure how they would have gotten the info.
I had my WoW, Eve, and Warhammer accounts taken in the same week. Still have no idea what I did. I just reformated, ran an anti-rootkit, some good AV, and went on with things.
I'm starting to get frustrated as a Barb in Inferno, Act 1 is a walk in the park, I can kill 2 or 3 champion packs at once without much trouble, but Act 2 is impossible unless I run from at least half the champion packs, most of the time I get 1-2 shotted (9k armor, 45k life and 400-600 resists)
Then the other issue is I need/want better gear but I might get something worth more than 50k maybe 1 in 30 jailer-butcher runs which take about 15 mins each, and everything is 3-5 millions a piece, I'm not even sure if it's possible to get good gear in Act 1
I'm still shocked people don't have authenticators.
At this point you pretty much deserve to have your accounts compromised. It has nothing to do with public games. It was not because you joined a public game, it was not because you made your game public, it has nothing to do with the auction house. You didn't have an authenticator, that is what happened.
Yeah, well getting an Authenticator was the first thing I did. Lesson learned I guess.
Also......been 24+ hours and I still don't have my account back. Really slow customer service.....
Phone lines aren't even taking more calls, they just say "sorry" and hang up on you everytime. ugghhh
