This is actually a really big deal.

This would be the first time in close to a decade that Toonami has aired stuff close to the initial airdate in Japan. If it succeeds you could see quite a lot of money being thrown around with licensing in the future.

Would suspect a mix of IG handling the main series with a dash of maybe CN wanting to make it better marketable to kids. Though I honestly can't remember if the show ever had toys associated with it. I think both have their pluses, with the above perhaps looking a little aged overall.

I can certainly see CN stepping in to take away the guns (despite it actually being a part of the name of the actual race) but honestly, I think the original concept seemed a lot more interesting. I felt the full IGPX series was absurdly boring and the races were one of the worst parts of the show. Shame we didn't get to see the original concept get expanded upon more, the fighting war-mech concept seemed a lot more fun.

And no, there were never any toys. At least nothing released in the states (where CN is most concerned about). There may have been some model or garage kits in japan though.

Naruto Shippuden & Space Dandy to air in January

Hey guys! It’s only been a week or two since we announced the happy news that we’ll be world premiering SPACE DANDY on Toonami in January, but we’ve got more big news we’ve been dying to communicate to you.

First, some bad news: Naruto will be leaving Toonami on November 30th. Don’t worry, it’s out there streaming in several places if you want to continue the story (and we think you should).

But the GOOD news is, NARUTO SHIPPUDEN is finally coming home to Toonami in January, premiering the same night as Space Dandy (final date tbd)!

And yes, it will be uncut. And glorious.

There’s more news coming down the pike, but for now, enjoy your regular Naruto eps and prepare to get caught up, because SHIPPUDEN. IS. COMING.
