all women need to buy pants at some point. it just so happens that the sizing system used for women's clothing is ridiculous, while the sizing system used for men's clothing is fairly straightforward and pretty easy to use. you maybe think i am blaming women or calling them stupid for "not being able to figure out sizes", when in fact i am sympathizing with them for having to put up with such an awful system. or do you just not know how different the standard women's pant size system is from what men use?

for men, a 30x30 is a 30" waist with a 30" inseam. done and done. for women, a size 6 in old navy may not be the same as a size 6 in.. fuck, idk, docker's. don't ask me about brand names. point is, women have to constantly try on clothes because there is no universal measurement system that all brands and stores use. they also have to deal with different stylistic changes, and the fact that women's clothing is predominantly fitted towards a barbie-esque ideal rather than actual women (the goal for the designer is to make women fit the clothes, not clothes fit the women).

The average dress size in the US is a 14, I doubt there's a predominant predilection for barbie-sized clothes

And I have pants that go from a 34 to a 38, and all of them fit me. It might be a little more variable for women's clothing, but it's not a universal standard among men either.

I think the whole feminism thing as a concept is kinda stupid. I mean you get a certain age and realize women don't want things equal. They kinda do but not really. You'll get asked to do certain things by women just because you're a guy, and they have certain things much easier because they are women... it's just the way it is, ain't no one mad about it. Clearly being white and male is better, like Louis said, give me the option and I'll take it every time but people go over the edge with getting offended by ironic jokes about a certain demographic. Idealism is kinda cute I guess.

I didn't say size. The problem is shape. Alterations are pretty much a fact of life for every woman I've ever gone clothes shopping with.

Inches are a pretty standardized measurement, dude. It's not "a 34", it's "A 34 inch waist". If you have a 38 inch waist and you're fitting pants that say 34" on the label, they're stretched.

JCPenny, Old Navy, Sears mainly. I do not know your body type, but this seems to be a problem that's significantly more visible among curvy/hourglass women. Hell, my last ex had to wear ridiculously poorly fitted bras because no one ever makes 28DDs (she had to wear 34Ds and they were pretty useless), and my best friend has to have all of her bras custom made because she's a 34E.

My wife complains all the time that a size 10 at Old Navy is not the same as a size 10 at Macy's etc. So GG has a valid point imo. It's why she has to try on everything before she buys it. But I'd rather she does that than gets stuck having to return something for being too big/small.

I try on my clothes to avoid the extra trip too, because I dislike clothing that is too baggy and the aforementioned size differences. I don't think it's a strictly female thing.

Yeah, sizes are very different between shops! It's a pain in the butt.

lin when/if you get married are you realistically going to mow the yard, take out the trash, change the oil in your car, bury the dog, fix the toilet etc... I mean yes, clearly you are very capable of doing these things, I just doubt most women will. Just how it is. Shit hasn't been a real problem since the 50s or so.
