truthfully, it's really complicated and a little annoying for the lazy (like myself) to refer to the 'correct' term of the genitals. There's honestly a medical breakdown of just how many millimeters at birth constitutes a penis or a clitoris. Last class I took that touched on the topic said there were 5 genders, and whatever the accepted number is now, it's certainly not 2

I don't know what cisgender means off hand, other than seeing it in kuya's thread title, but ultimately I shy on the side of caution. Not to imply you don't have a background of knowledge (it seems you do, or believe you are coming from a valid background of being informed) but I err on the side of delicateness and if unsure I won't say anything, or ask what they prefer.

the latter is sometimes silly though because what if I hauled off and said to milkster, "what do you prefer that I call you?" (asking about gay/homosexual/queer or whatever other unnecessary label I might with all good intentions hope to apply to him, all for the sake of me grasping how to identify which neat little box he fits into)

apparently there are gradations of each of the "two" genitalia we are familiar with, and it would seem ideally all of these be accounted for when speaking of them

i'm familiar with what you're talking about. i just wasn't bringing them up since we seemed to be discussing a pretty typical mtf scenario.

this is probably better suited to pms though because the topic has a tendency to induce voracious menstruation in the peanut gallery.

I think people are still a bit tired from dancing around terms for what to call people of colour, people who prefer the same gender sexually, people who are disabled/differently abled/a couple other jargon terms I'm forgetting, and even (still after all these decades) women's rights and issues

personally I try to keep up, be respectful, and most importantly work toward my personal ideal of not even noticing any of these differences

ever point out someone across the street, and if it's a white guy, you say the blonde/brown haired/skinny guy or whatever. But if it's a black guy, I think to this day I have never once heard him referred to as anything but 'the black guy' and no reference to his fade, his wannabe kanye mohawk or any other non-race descriptor (I do recognize the difficulty in distinguishing otherwise due to the bulk of black people having black hair)

anyway, I'm pretty versed on all the rest, but my PC-ness and scientific knowledge is lacking on trans issues, and I'm still getting used to the presence of T and the other one in LGTQB or whatever the acronym is now, I think there's a 2nd T or something

Toronto has a very vibrant alternative lifestyle community, so my version of less-informed is probably miles ahead of some, but I do feel like I have room to gain for appropriate sensitivity to my liking
